You may call me Anxo. I am an indi game developer and long time MMORPG player.
I have played the first Everquest for 2 years and due to loyalty, I played Everquest 2 when it first game out but only for 2 months before I could not take the borthem anymore. I then played WoW for 5 to 6 years. My guild and I have been looking for a new game and we are all waiting for Blizzards Project Titan in 2014 but we would loved to play something new but could never find anything worthy.
All the other MMORPGs may have one or 2 things that is better than wow but overall, they can never come close. No one is really different. It was only recently that I tried the elder scrolls. I saw your adds a thousand times but allways brushed it of as another one of thoes. From your ads it was not clear to me that this game has a lot of things that I really love, and when I started playing it, I thought WOW this is what wow should be like. So I would like to express some of the things that I really love about the current game and that I hope you do not change, as well as some things that I hope you ad to make the MMO part more interesting.
Please do not change the following:
1. Please do not make the game more user friendly, Sometimes I feel like there are no games for gamers anymore. (my mother should not be able to play the game) (she plays wow by the way).
2. I love the mystery, I do not know what level my opponents are, I do not know how much health they have or what abilities and it is not clear to me how to beat them sometimes. I LOVE THAT! please do not ad name tags above characters or players heads! I would even do away with enemy health bars. That mystery made the elder scrolls skirm game, the first game for me where the Dev hoped that the player explores beyond the story line and I actually care enough to do so. I can not go past a cave right now without wanting to know what is inside. No name tags, let me hide in the shadows, let me wonder if the other person is going to attack me or not, let me ask them for their name.
3. Please keep the game more on the skill > gear side of the isle.
4. Please keep the Zelda 64 style combat. I hate auto attack and auto block.
5. Please keep the freedom to do the wrong things, Let me hit a guard and pay for it, let me hit my mercenaries and pay for it. Let me make these mistakes so that I can focus on the things I am good at and leave the other job to someone who is less clumsy.
6. A lot of feelings I got when playing skyrim, I remember from my early EQ days, going out at night was a problem for humans. I love that. Weight is a problem, you can pick up all you like but you are slown down as a result. I would hope that you take that even further, and have visual representations of the stuff you carry. You will see later, why I would think that would be cool.
7. No targeting please, let me heal my enemies by mistake if my aim is off. Let me hit my friends. It is these things that make us good, and bad at what we do. That turn us into a team player or a loan warrior
And these are things I hope you ad:
1. Free for all! Let allienaces be by the descisions you make. Forming clans is great but if I want to betray them, I should, Let trust in friends be as much of a part of the game as the in game mechanics. "Can I trust him to let him into our Cricle? or will he rob our beds?"
2. Let us form clans, let these clans take over towns and forts and teretory, When a teretory is held by a clan, the mines on that teretory are under that clan's control, so any outsider who mines there, or hunts or harvests there, would only get 50% of the ore, the other 50% would go to the clan as a tax. This would make some territories more valuable than others. If a clan attacked it they would have to hold it for like an hour for it to turn.
3. Please take out fast travel. I know this would stur some people up but fast travel is a huge party pooper in MMOs. I remember back in the day, in EQ I would have to wait till day sometimes to travel so I would hang out at the town and chat and see if I could find someone to travel with about it was dangerous. I understand a lot of time is wasted traveling but it can also be one of the best sourses for adventure, companionship and SECLUSION! If your clan holds a fort ad the edge of the map in some far away mountian, one of the best defence might be distance. And you could alert your clan when you see an army aproaching. It would also ad to the strategy of the game, People would have to be fairly organized to assult, and after a long travel, while they regroup, it is an opporunity or the opponents to preamtivly strike. You would loose so much with fast travel, Everquest introduced it in an expansion and every game had it ever sense. It has been lost and forgotten and It takes away from the fastness of your world.
If I have a piece of armor from the other side of the world, people can say "wow, where did you get that?, how do you get there" with fast travel something from the other side of the world would lose its exsoticness.
Also, running into other travels will lead to interesting situations, strategically position your clan members so that everyone is in range if you were to be attacked and so on it would just be really cool. Some people would be robbers, just hanging out on the side of the road, others would offer themselves as escorts for a fee. You would lose all that and the feeling of distance if you allow fast travel.
I know fast travel is a hard case to make but please try to stand out. Let this game be about adventure.
4. Let me loot your stuff! This is one of the reasons why I think the game should be skill > gear, let people kill people because they see something on them they like. So that it is not too big of the loser, Do not make the gear too epic, he can just go craft it again if the has the mats or money. He can also always join the Stormcloaks or Imperials if he does not have any money and needs gear.
5. Reputation, If I steal something in a town or rob or kill someone, I should have a bounty on my head (as is) BUT, if I wear a mask, I should have to be caught first before that goes on my record.
6. Let us hire Guards for our forts, NPCs that are there alerting any members of the clan if they get attacked. Let our blacksmiths create locks for the gates and the doors. The better the blackmithing skills and the mats, the stronger the lock.
7. COD does footsteps really well. Please play call of duty as a reference for noise in multiplayer. If someone is sneaking up on me but they are bumping into stuff or have on some heavy plate gear, I should be able to hear where they are coming from, as well as the food steps.
8. Please do not do this for the money, This is why EQ2 Failed. They tried to exploit their player and there was no passion. When EQ2 first came out they let you create 4 Characters in total. (not per server, IN TOTAL), but there were twice as many classes, so if you wanted to try them all you had to delete a character or purchase another account. This was a shameless attempt to make more money and a big turn off.
I hope this is not going to be another one of those.......
Anxo.
PS: Sorry for my misspellings. I hope you were able to make out the message.
