Opinion on America and future laws? NDAA Martial Law.

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:09 am

So I wanted to talk about the NDAA bill that Obama has signed a few months ago. It basically states that individuals within the U.S soil can be detained without trial if suspected of terrorism or piracy. And even possibly be tortured.

"The Act authorizes $662 billion in funding, among other things "for the defense of the United States and its interests abroad." In a signing statement, President Obama described the Act as addressing national security programs, Department of Defense health care costs, counter-terrorism within the U.S. and abroad, and military modernization.

The most controversial provisions to receive wide attention are contained in Title X, Subtitle D, entitled "Counter-Terrorism." In particular, sub-sections 1021 and 1022, which deal with detention of persons the government suspects of involvement in terrorism, have generated controversy as to their legal meaning and their potential implications for abuse of Presidential authority. Although the White House and Senate sponsors maintain that the Authorization Use for Military Force. Already grants presidential authority for indefinite detention, the Act states that Congress "affirms" this authority and makes specific provisions as to the exercise of that authority. The detention provisions of the Act have received critical attention by, among others, the America Civil Liberty Union (ACLU) and some media sources which are concerned about the scope of the President's authority, including contentions that those whom they claim may be held indefinitely could include U.S. citizens arrested on American soil, including arrests by members of the Armed Forces."

Now. Discuss your perspective on this matter. I am sure most Americans will indeed speak against this. Some may not. Share you're opinions and keep it clean and respectful. What do you think of this new bill and the future of America? Pro-bill or Anti-bill?

Mmm, did you clear this with a mod beforehand? Just asking, because it could get locked for being a political discussion.

But anyway, I'm against it. It's the government throwing habeas corpus out the window. A gross violation of the Constitution.

Obama signed a statement. It will allow for federal emergencies to be solved faster. Something like hurricane Katrina could've been helped a lot faster if this was in effect. But there are downsides. Not everything is one sided like Fox news like to fantasize it is.

I personally am against this. I could be labeled an enemy of the state and be arrested like that if I spoke out against something I didn't like. It's a shame.

I never knew beating someone to within an inch of their lives stopped hurricanes, healed the injured, and rebuilt destroyed homes. I've learned something very valuable today.

I can't follow this thought process. We need FEMA to respond faster, so we'll make wide sweeping laws that allow them to terrorize citizens? Whuh? Why not just make laws/rules/whatever for FEMA to train them to act better? Why the hell would torture ever have to be rolled up into a series of bills trying to "help" people. I'm so confused. It's without a doubt the most paranoid schizophrenic response to anything ever. It's like trying to cure one or two cases of lice by using scorched earth bombing tactics against a town. I just don't get it.

Sounds far fetched, but if I do not have a place in this changing society, I will probably isolate myself in some jungle and go native. Either that, or I am stopping riots and arresting people for a living -_-

I am quite sure the majority of the American people are against it, which will pose much trouble for the government. And it seems if you act against the government, it's a terrorist act again America. How will they put so many people in prison?

I guess we have the FEMA camps for a reason. Well played, political elites, well played....

I wonder if the appointment of Walton Simons to FEMA will be finalized within the week, and if Bob Page already discussed the matter with the senator?

I have no clue on that matter, though I will try to look it up and see what I can discover.

I fear our country is headed down a very perilous road. The police were militarized in the name of the drug war, and now the President has the authority to suspend habeas corpus. Piece by piece, the infrastructure of totalitarianism is being put in place. Some sort of means for the state to shut down Americans' access to the internet will be the next step.

Then all that remains is a president with the desire to use it.

I don't mean to act as a conspiracy theorist, but I've seen a similar thing before in movies and books. But it seems to me that the war on terror was an excuse. And this new bill is a start of a road that will lead to new societies. Who would of imagined America would be a near totalitarian state?

New World Order for a safe and secure society?

But speaking within these grounds of the NDAA bill, how many would actually agree to it? Or perhaps even engage in it as military officers?

By such measure they shall obtain the power of destroying little by little, step by step, all that at the outset when they enter on their rights, they are compelled to introduce into the constitutions of States to prepare for the transition to an imperceptible abolition of every kind of constitution, and then the time is come to turn every form of government into their despotism.

Then a national firewall, China style. I predict that the internet will be the main focus of expanding government power in the coming decade. SOPA was just a prototype.
