Opinions on Cass?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:11 am

All,

What weapons should I give Cass? What ammunition? She is always complaining her default gun isn't good and I'm kinda tired of it. I want to upgrade her. What weapons is she best with? I have Hand Loader, if that is a factor.

What armor is she best with? I'd like her to remain good at stealth, so I am assuming I want reinforced leather or maybe the low-end combat armor. Or is there a better option?

Most important, which Perk should I get for Cass? The revenge perk that gives her more damage or the calm heart one that gives her more hit points? Which is better? If it is a factor, I'll say that I'm a Sniper/Cowboy build with max Action Points. I'm built both towards AP stuff and crits/sniping.

Finally, I know from experience that ED-E ruins the stealth Cass and I are capable of. What about Rex? Will he go charging off? Or should I just avoid non-human companions if I want to stealth around with Cass?

Thanks!

get a riot shotgun with slug rounds on her.

also her armor is already quite good if you want to sneak, since it's light and there are not many armors that she's willing to wear...

calm heart is broken, when you receive it, cass gets HEALED by 50 HP and the HP meter goes beyond the limit, but not giving any permanent boost

you can get both perks, finishing the quest peacefully THEN killing mclafferty and gloria van graff.

Sounds good (Riot Shotgun). Now I just need to find one. Does the reload bug / cant - do - anything - bug with shotguns affect companions? :)

As for the armor, she is willing to wear all the really crappy DT 1 raider armor I give her. She looks very mad max. :) I was thinking about giving her reinforced Leather since its DT 10 but it is still light. She looks kinda cool in the normal Combat Armor. I hate the reinforced and MK 2 ones on her but the regular kind looks nice, with a fiend goat helm on top. :)

If I do give her Combat Armor (Medium) does that severely impact her speed and sneaking?

Also if I go the revenge route, how does that affect my standing with the strip generally? Will I get attacked?

Thanks!

I think I only encountered that cant-do-anything-but with the hunting shotgun and it's solved by just "shooting", the riot shotgun had not many problems reported.

and yes, medium armors does affect the sneak, but I think companions sneaking depends on your sneaking, don't really know for sure.

killing the van graffs doesn't get you bad rep with freeside afaik and I haven't tried killing mclafferty yet...

She did fine for me in reinforced combat armor and using the All-American loaded with dirt cheap surplus 5.56mm ammo.

And just leave ED-E waiting somewhere. ESPECIALLY if you're stealthing. I love sneaking into the building and then hearing ED_E play his music montage and everyone goes cautious or dangerous :P. You can leave him somewhere for up to seven days and still get the sensors perk. After that he goes back to Primm and you have to recruit him again.

She is definitely getting the bug that affects me too, where the shotguns and lever action items make her unable to act. Its getting us killed.

Whats the best weapon for her that is NOT affected by this bug?

Thanks!

I gave her a Cowboy Repeater that i had uppgraded twice ( custom action and long tube ) and she is alittle too good at killing anything that hasent got armor protection =/ =) might have to let the ammo run out on her hehe.....

armor.....i kinda like what she is wearing when you first meet her...... might just let her wear that forever =)

but i guess i have to give her just about anything to keep her standing further in the game...

0. She's absolutely awesome.
1. She can have BOTH perks. Check the wiki how to do it. All in all, I prefer her HP perk because I typically don't have Volare! done when I am finishing Cass' quest early in the game. I get the other perk later when I finish all the quests for Graffs and Crimson that need leaders alive.
2. I typically give her a good Combat Armor, like the freebie from Gomorrah. But PA is an option too.
3. She's best with Hunting Shotgun or a Dinner Bell. They give her more range and more punch on armored enemies than Riot. Give her custom rounds! Lotsa.
4. She removes bad effects from all alcohol, meaning you can really boost especially a melee character with some booze. My favourite Cass moment, we enter Legendary Deathclaw's nest, we both booze up, we black out and when we regain consciousness we wake up on a pile of dead Deathclaws. :-p

"ssssshhhh, we're hunting sh itheads." :-)

BoS merchant and the NCR supply guy at the Airport both sell it.......the NCR guy especially is well stocked for 12.7mm ammo. Expensive but what else am I going to spend my vast fortune on?

I find him to useful for .308 & 12.7mm ammo....althrough the three loading screens are a pain, but he's sitting on a huge supply of good ammo so I side with him and get this machine and the ammo supply.

Edit: Oh yeah, Helljumpers was the nickname for the ODSTs in the Halo novels.

Yeah, you can side with him.....you just need to negotiate with the NCR Ranger, I find a silenced sniper rifle to be the best negotiation tool.

I'd give her Brush if there was enough ammo... NPCs have HORRID habit of wasting it.

I wish there was a setting preventing them from taking a shot unless hit% is above 80%. I believe it was included in original Fallouts - unless my memory fails me.

Riot shotgun doesn't have the bug because it uses a magazine. It also makes it way faster to reload even without the bug.

Give her a riot shotgun and slugs and she's awesome.

I don't remember that, I think it was an option (in FO2) to not fire if there was a good chance to hit you. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didnt, but at least they weren't Ian from Fallout 1.

Okay. Then it must be some other Mass Dragon Gate Whatever RPG. My point stands. Companions waste way too many bullets. Just give Veronica a Q-35 and watch the trajectory of her shots.

On the other hand....Give Cass the All-American and surplus 5.56mm ammo and she can waste all the shots she wants with the stuff being dirt cheap.

Cass has the best dialogue. Potty mouthed little b**** that she is. :swear:

I've given her all variations of leather and combat armor that I have found and she didn't have a problem.
Don't forget to give her a helmet. That extra little bit will keep her shooting longer.

I've given her a variety of pistols with success. Certainly better at range than her shotgun and I almost always have tons of 9mm, 10mm and .556 ammo rattling around.
(indoors I leave her with her default shotgun. It does pretty well against all but heavily armored foes at close range)
