Opinions Sought - Dawnguard - Does it distract?

I have not completed the Main Quest in Skyrim. I would like to get Dawnguard, but my concern is that it will add a bunch of new content to the game that will get in the way of the original Skyrim storyline and quests.

We all remember adding the DLC to Oblivion and how you'd get Quest Bombed when starting a new game. I'd like to avoid that, and be able to complete a full run of Skyrim without a ton of new stuff barging in on the experience.

So, do you think that Dawnguard is a PLUS or a MINUS when added to Skyrim, for a person who has not completed the primary quest lines from the original content?

Thank you for any help offered.

Easily a plus. The only thing that will happen is that MAYBE one of the Dawnguard members will show up and invite you to join. Then you can just.. not join. But if you play as a Werewolf, you'll get perks to upgrade your stats and abilities. If you play as a vampire, you'll notice cosmetic changes (and a transformation down the road, if you choose to become a Vampire Lord in the questline)

Though, once and a while, you'll get attacked by vampires dependent on your level. That can get kind of annoying, just make sure that whenever you fast travel directly to a hold city, you wait toward the entrance. Maybe use a Detect Dead spell. If you stay nearby for a few moments, you should be able to catch the vamps before they kill anyone. Slow Time helps too. Plus if you're good with a bow; so you can kill long distance.

The Vampire Attacks in the towns is the most problematical issue with the DLC. Other than that, it really does not impact the game. The new areas are tucked away.

I personally leave DG unchecked until I am ready to play it, then focus on that MQ. The town attacks can be managed and dealt with so they have little to no impact on the towns and NPCs, but I would rather not have to deal with until I am ready to.

I just mentioned in another thread, it is kind of like a sequel to the MQ for me. A new chapter for my dovahkiin character, but I would never do it at the same time as the MQ. On PC you could just deactivate it so you don't get vampire attacks, not sure if that is possible on consoles.

It's the much anticipated second movie ;)
