I would do the same if a mad dog with rabies was coming my way, only 10x worse if I saw a human doing the same, if that makes sense.

Heck, after emptying all my clips, i would go home, reload the ammo and shoot a few more clips just to be safe. Makes me think of vietnam where they would drug up the soldiers so bad that it took 4 shots to the head just to knock them down.

Definitely scary. while we are at it, run over the body with the car as you drive away to triple-check that double-tap.
It didn't work in Jeeper's Creeper's.

That's small-time son, I'll jack a bulldozer from the nearest construction site.:P
But all joking aside I would've shot the man to [censored], doesn't matter if i was a cop or not.

and technically in Florida ANYONE could have killed that guy due to the stand your ground laws which state that if you feel threatened you have the right to use lethal force.

Well I don't fully agree with that, but in this case makes sense. I mean if you don't feel threatened by a naked dude chewing someone's face then you're Chuck Norris...which you aren't.

Sounds like a law that is very easy to bend and exploit. I don't think anyone should be encouraged to use lethal force unless there are no other options.

Guy chewing another guy's face off, and ignores warning to stop?

Bloody well deserves to be shot. Good for the cop that shot him. The world is now a slightly better place with one less face-chewing junkie in it.

Why did the officer not incapacitate the man?

Considering he was in the process of gnawing someone's face off, I think shooting him was the most appropriate form of incapacitation.

I don't know. It sounds a bit ludicrous to me, since the officer would have been close enough to shoot the arms or legs. I guess the police knows what is best.

They only do that on TV: it's tricky enough hitting a target at all, even one that isn't trying to eat someone's brain...

Shooting a handgun is trickier than many think, their aim is absolute [censored]e even the modern ones. And let's be honest if you encountered this and he attacked you, would you waste time aiming at limbs or would you just empty a clip into the bastard? I really am actually glad the cop killed him and didn't [censored] around with limbs and all that small-time stuff.

As Vometia pointed out, officers don't really do that. They are trained to aim for the torso, since it is not easy to hit the head or the extremities of the human body. Of course, unless you damage the right internal organs, people can keep going even after multiple shots to the torso, which is why the officer had to keep firing after the first shot.

One could make the argument that the officer should have used a tazer, but asking him to shoot the arms or legs or attempt close range confrontation with the assailant is simply asking for too much.

It's easy for know it alls to make assumptions of what the officer 'should' have done without knowing what it's like. It's like playing a video game where you get a bonus for disabling some enemy than outright killing them, it's easy to say 'well you SHOULD have just captured the guy', but it's entirely different when you're in the moment and your adrenaline is running with your nerves on edge, the likely response is 'survival over laws written on paper'.

Every state needs this law. Hell, every person needs to be armed.

Good for the cop for dropping that zombie. I would've done the same, had I lived in Florida and had a gun.

In other other news, next Monday (I mean the 4th) it's the annual cheese rolling festival at Cooper's Hill. I wonder how many people will be injured trying to keep up with an excitable double gloucester this year?
