Over 3 Million Beta Applications

Post » Fri Aug 23, 2013 2:03 am

http://www.pcgamesn.com/elderscrolls/blimey-elder-scrolls-online-has-had-over-3-million-beta-sign-ups

While the number bodes well for the game, signing up for Beta is not the same thing as purchasing the game. Its also worth noting that most of these people signed up before the payment model was announced.

On the other hand, its actually kinda upsetting that there are tens of thousands of people in the Beta and yet not me.

There's no shortage of people that signed up multiple times either. It's an impressive sounding number of beta signups, but we have no way of knowing how many are unique individuals.

I feel your pain Nord. I keep telling myself that I don't want to be in early beta to ease the sting. I'll let you know when it works.

Either way, 3 million people signing up for beta is still a very significant number. But that in no way tells us how many people will buy the game when it comes out though.

There's also people like myself who never signed up for beta. Back when beta signups were first available, I had no internet access, and when I did get internet access it's what I'm currently using - which is only 1 mbps down, it'd take me days, if not a full week, to download a modern mmo.

Also, I've done my share of betas for other games, and I'm done with ruining the initial feeling of surprise and suspense.

It's 1 million more than the number who played the SWTOR beta. Pretty good numbers I guess. Still doesn't really tell us anything about the people who will actually be playing the game, but oh well.

Doesn't matter, the important part is they're actually listening to their testers.

Which isn't saying much considering that the game is also going to be released on the consoles, and SWTOR wasn't.

Even more pertinent to me is the 1.3 million likes on the Facebook page. That's less likely to be duplicates.

By Comparison, WoW page has 5 million likes.

I never signed up for the FB page.

Also, WoW is live. So, there is that....

There was a guy on there the week of the stress tests complaining about how he hadn't gotten selected, even though he (claimed to have) registered 80 email addresses.

WoW has also had several years to pile on the likes. ESO is just over a year since it was announced.

How many of those beta sign-ups just want to play the game instead of testing the game?

I'm one.

I'd rather play then test.

However, I do test. I test well.

I want to be in Beta just to see if it would be worth buying it. I no longer buy any Pay to Play MMO without first trying it.

its just like all the f2p people looking to get something for nothing. I didn't get an invite and don't really care if I do or not. I know they got good people in there and I cant wait to see the game in all its polished glory. And maybe this way I wont be hitting lvl cap two weeks after release cause it's my 10 character

I think all of us want to play the game. Most of us, I hope, want to play the game and are willing to stop and report the bugs we find along the way. But, how many people really would report a bug they come across? Naturally, this relies on the company to actually fix the bugs that get reported though which I think the devs will do for this game.

I would hope they keep some kind of record and the ones that do not report anything do not get invited back.

That's a shame, they just added a Mimmy pack and Dear Daniel boss.

A lot I'm thinking.

Can't tell if this is directed at me or not....if it is: quite rude.

I don't want something for nothing. I'm going to be buying, playing, and paying for this game no matter what. I just want to be part of the development process in some small way and help make this a better game.

I don't want in for an "early look." If anything, Beta testing ruins some of the surprise and you have to deal with unpolished features.
