Over the shoulder camera mod ?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 3:32 pm

In Oblivion, there were several "Gears of War" over the shoulder mods. But the game was absolutely not designed for 3rd person, so all of them had targeting issues.

Now that Skyrim is more 3rd person friendly, anyone working on such mod? Waiting for the CS?

What do you mean, over the shoulder? Isn't it already like that?

It is, but the positioning is... awkward.

It is possible to tweak the third person camera (a number of settings relate to it in skyrim.ini) but it's hard to adjust when no one seems to know the minimum and max values for these fields.

The current third person view is not really "over the shoulder", it's more like "slightly off to the side and exactly behind the shoulder" and it's very annoying. Scrolling back simply makes the camera head more towards a bird's-eye view as well, so there is never a happy medium.

Skyrim is more like "over the head" than "over the shoulder" :)
Talking here about gears of war / resident evil cameras.

I hope someone is trying already to come with such a mod. I'd love it.

Do you know exactly which variables? So that I can play with them a little bit..

Add these to Skyrim.ini:

[Camera]
fOverShoulderCombatAddY=-100.0000
fOverShoulderCombatPosZ=20.0000
fOverShoulderCombatPosX=0.0000
fOverShoulderPosZ=-10.0000
fOverShoulderPosX=30.0000
fOverShoulderHorseAddY=-300.0000
fOverShoulderHorsePosZ=0.0000
fOverShoulderHorsePosX=0.0000

Those are the default values, so far the only adjustment I made is change the horse and combat camera to be the same as the default third person position so that way they don't keep changing when I draw a weapon or mount a horse.

Oh, and you may need to add and tweak "fActorFadeOutLimit=30" under the same category or your horse will disappear if you zoom the camera in too close.
