Owned Rage for a month and a half and still yet to play it

Wall of text, be warned.

I've owned this game for a little over a month and a half and I have still yet to play it. I initially installed it on an Alienware M17x r3 with and intel core i7 2.2Ghz processor, 16gb of ram and an ati radeon 6990m graphics card. While I was installing it the cord came unplugged from the back of the computer and interrupted the install. I restarted the computer and attempted to reinstall. The game acted like it was going to load, went to a black screen and then I got a windows error message saying the program had encountered a problem and needed to close. I tried updating drivers and uninstalling/reinstalling the game several times. I had several other issues with that computer unrelated to Rage and ended up sending that particular computer back. I now have an M18x with an Intel core i7 2.5 Ghz processor, 16gb of ram and two ati radeon 6990m's. I tried installing it on this computer and the exact same thing happened, I was at my girlfriends house and her little brother pulled the power cord out of my computer half way through the install. After turning the computer back on I tried everything I did with the M17x to no avail.

Now before I get bashed for not having a battery in, this computer is primarily sat at home on my desk as a gaming computer and as such I don't keep my battery in at all times to avoid ruining it's charge. I'm also sure some of you are thinking that my problem stems from having the install cancelled abruptly and that some corrupted files are what is causing the game to refuse to load. This also isn't the case as I have recently taken out one of the hdd's in my m18x and installed an ssd which required me to re-format my hdd's. If there were any files left to corrupt the game they would be gone after the format but when I tried to install the game I am getting the same error.

I'm sorry for such a huge post but I have been in contact with gamesas's tech support for over a month and I have been in tier 2 status with no word on when I am going to be contacted. I paid 60 dollars for this damn game and I haven't been able to see the start screen let alone play it. I know there are plenty of people on these forums just as knowledgeable as Bethesda's tech support staff and I would love to hear from anyone who has any ideas as to what I can do to fix this problem.

Again guys, sorry for such a long post.

What's the error exactly? Program encountered a problem and needed to close? is that it? I assume you checked "uninstall programs" and it's not listed anymore? windows 7 64bit?

"Rage has encountered a problem and stopped working, windows is attempting to find a solution." Then it closes. I am running windows 7 64 bit and the game does show up to uninstall in control panel.

have you tried verifying local files? https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

A lot of people reporting that with AMD dual cards there are problems, maybe try removing/disabling one?

I have tried disabling crossfire and have verified my game cache a few times, nothing seems to work.

Anyone else have any input? It's been over three weeks since I have been elevated to "tier two" status (pretty certain this is how they avoid calling you back) and I have still yet to hear any word from Bethesda. I have called twice and both times the techs tell me the same thing, that I just have to wait until Bethesda calls back with a fix. It's been three months now and I still haven't been able to run the game...

Did you verify that it was not in add/remove prog's after uninstall, then delete the directory(s) and try reinstalling? I'd start there but it sounds like you did this I just don't know for sure.

Yeah, I did do that. I've since upgraded my system (previously 2 750gb hdd's in raid0) to a 240gb ssd and left one of my 750gb hdd's for storage which obviously required me to format the hdd and still no luck. I even tried installing Rage on the new ssd and I am getting the same issue.

At this point I really don't expect to hear anything from id. I have been on the phone with Bethesda tech support since early January and have been in tier 2 status for over three weeks with no responses, for a $65 game that I have still yet to play, To say that I am disappointed would be a huge understatement.

So I figured I would keep updating this thread just so everyone can get an idea of how bad Bethesda's tech support is. I initially contacted them on the 10th of January about this problem and I have been calling them at least every second week since. That's not an exaggeration, I have literally been attempting to resolve this issue since the 10th of January and haven't been able to get a response from Bethesda yet. I was finally placed in tier two status in the middle of February and have been waiting ever since to be contacted. At this point I am beyond pissed off at their lack of technical support and their lack of customer service. Needless to say I won't be buying any Bethesda products again and I hope that this sheds some light for other consumers on how low of a priority customer satisfaction is for this company.

That's the way it is for a lot of game companies. I'm not saying that it svcks any less, but I am putting it in context.

Anyway, I hope you (eventually) manage to get the game running (if you haven't returned it yet).
