Passive Ultimate Abilites

From what we understand, when we build up enough Ultimate points from doing special attacks or whatever, we can use our Ultimate power. This might be some powerful attack or heal or whatever.

I was thinking it would be nice to have a passive Ultimate as well. When you have built up enough points, you can turn on the passive effect and it will slowly eat away any Ultimate points you have in your pool. As long as you keep earning the Ultimate points, the passive effect stays on.

Passive ideas:

  • X bonus Mana, Health or Stamina points
  • X Mana, Health or Stamina regeneration
  • Spell shield absorbs X% of magic damage
  • Combat shield absorbs X% of physical damage
  • Shadow cloak gives X bonus to hiding
  • Magical concentration gives X critical chance to magic attacks
  • Combat concentration gives X critical chance to physical attacks
  • X bonus to walking speed
  • Do X% more damage with X weapon

The list could go on and on.

This could be a choice in all skill lines. Use a Ultimate attack over and over or keep a small ability up for as long as you can.

Or..

This could even be a higher level bonus, so when an expansion comes out a year after release, this might be an ability they could add to the character sheet.

It is an interesting idea . . . but I would say it needs to be handled carefully.

An ultimate ability along these lines needs a duration limit like maybe say 5 mins or something depending on the buff given by the ability. I guess it wouldn't really be passive though if you had to activate it . . . hmm

It does have a duration limit. The ultimate pool drains.

Eh, I don't like this idea. Part of playing a character skillfully is knowing when to use cooldowns. Replacing your ultimate ability with a passive bonus that has the potential to be active constantly depending on how fast you build finesse just seems boring, potentially overpowered, and too easy.
