1.8 Patch (Bugs & Glitches During The Opening Scenes)

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 10:14 pm

Since downloading the 1.8 patch for Skyrim, I have encountered several bugs and glitches. I decided i'd start a new character to see if the issues were just a result of patching an already 'in progress' game. However, I found that this had no effect what-so-ever. I have made a record of all the bugs/glitches that I have encountered during the opening scenes and listed them here. This is more a list for other players to view rather then a complaint to Bethesda.

Has anyone else encountered any of these, want to add to the list or have solutions for them? But as with all bad things, there are some things that make the game better then it was. For balance, I have included these below the bugs. I will add to either section if and when I encounter further bugs/glitches. I will mark them with an EDIT note for ease of review.

I realise that some of these bugs may not be a direct result of 1.8, but these are all things I haven't encountered personally prior to installing the patch. I have included those notes in italics after said entry. Please note, I am rusty with some of the characters names, so I have tried to place exactly what I am referring to in the description.

I am playing on an Xbox 360, using no modifications and have both HF and DG installed.

Bugs/Glitches:

- When starting the game, you are on a wagon with your fellow prisoners. Upon entering Helen, as you go past the buildings where Ralof talks about the mead with juniper berries mixed in, the cart in front of us crashes off the screen and the cart we are on, flips and crashes into a building resulting in the game needing to be restarted. (I believe this bug/glitch has happened prior to 1.8).

- When you are in Helgen, and stepping off the cart, Ralof steps down but then walks away. The game does continue, however you are unable to see Ralof again until you enter the keep (assuming you sided with the SC rather then the Imperials). When you dive into the tower with Ulfric and co., the scene plays out but there is no Ralof or subtitles for him. This also happens when Ralof and Hadvarr have their encounter just prior to choosing which keep entrance you wish to use.

- When standing by the cart, prior to character creation, if you look down, you can see what looks like two floating buckets. Upon closer inspection, they are in fact the bindings holding your hands together. (I couldn't recreate this bug/glitch more then twice however).

- As you are about to be beheaded, and Alduin shows up, everything plays out as scripted however the sound is off. For example, when asked "Sentries, what can you see?” they reply with "It's in the clouds!" however Alduin has already landed on the tower top. Another example is when General Tullis says about getting the townspeople to safety. He no longer completes this sentence, instead cutting short the word townspeople. (I was already aware of this bug/glitch, however this was the first time I have encountered it).

- When you are told by Ulfric to move up the tower, two times in three, Alduin fails to smash through the wall resulting in a need to restart. Also I found once that Alduin failed to block access to the tower roof. Upon trying to move upstairs, the game froze.

- When you enter the 'old storeroom' in Helgen keep, most of the items lying around are stuck to the surface they are on resulting in the inability to take them with you.

- When in the spider’s nest below Helgen, I found one of the spiders had become invulnerable to ranged attacks (with the bow). I was unable to recreate this bug/glitch.

Improvements:

- When moving through Helgen, Alduin seems to be more offensive then usual. He will now land and attack both NPCs and the PC using his tail, mouth and flame attack. His flame attack seems to travel further then usual.

- Just after you come across the bear in the tunnels below Helgen, there is a pile of various bones on the floor. It would appear that this pile has grown considerably since my last play through.

I've also heard that you are unable to save after doing the "Waking Nightmare" quest. For the first time I think I'm grateful to be on PS3. That way I know what to finish.

I have also heard of this but have yet to try it since installing the patch. As you say, finally some positive news for the PS3 players ;)

This is a thread i started in the hearthfire room but im going to post it and start it as a new topic as many times as possible till the problem gets fixed.

"I am the not so proud owner of a non functioning copy of skyrim on the xbox 360. After the release of the latest patch, 1.8 i think it was, i still cant play the game. I havent been able to play the since the day i downloaded hearthfire on September 4, 2012. All of my characters are stuck unable to procede with the Unseen visions quest in the dawnguard line. Ive tried every fix proposed online and nothing works. I even started two new characters and i got stuck in the same spot unable to read the elderscrolls. I open them and it just freezes. My main lvl 58 is stuck in that cave, and the others well ive just lost all motivation to continue playing them, i dont realy have the time to get back to 58 again.

It has been over two months now. Ive been searching non stop for a fix and thought that this latest patch would set me free but i guess i shouldnt have goten my hopes up. I know im not the only one with this problem. Two of my friends are in the same boat and i want to hear from everybody else in the community. I hope if i make enough of a stink over this it will get fixed but these days i know its asking alot for something ive invested over $80, in to actually work. So if you have this same problem please post and complain start your own thread what ever you can just help me get this fixed."
