Payment Model for ESO ala Wildstar

Post » Tue Aug 20, 2013 7:32 am

Today Wildstar presented there Buisness Model and i really think Eso will go a similar way with there Model

http://www.wildstar-online.com/uk/news/the_business_model_of_wildstar.php

Pay to Play Gamers are happy.

B2P Gamers are happy if the have enough time.

F2P Gamers are unhappy but nobody wants them anyway

I could live with such a Model for Eso.

Ps: Also a link for guys that dont want to read that much.

So, you can buy in-game gold with real money.

Not a big fan of that.

Not really, because someone needs to farm it, so its more like Player A Farms the gold. Player A gives Player B the Gold and Player B gives Player A Playtime.

Its not like the Gold is generatet its farmed ingame, thats why im ok with it.

I like this idea.

Though it does bring some extra concerns, such as people using bots, because they desire to play the game for free, yet do not wish to invest time?

So Wildstar is going the EVE route. (C.R.E.D.D. = PLEX)

Pay to play games are a thing of the past, WOW and EVE are the only truly successful big MMO's that are still P2P out there and WOW is losing subs every day (not sure about EVE's player base, but it is a whole different breed of MMO anyway). Every game that people said was going to be the next wow killer that were P2P has gone F2P in less than 2 years. B2P and FTP are much better options. Just look at LOL they have a great cash shop, is completely F2P and are incredibly successful.

LOL is in no way similar at all to a AAA MMO. The comparison is ridiculous. AAA MMO's require hundreds of employees to update and create new content. LOL does not.

That being said, I am not a fan at all of this option. Any form of cash shop or being able to trade real money for in game gold is a very big drawback for me. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but it gets me half way to not playing.

Do you honestly think that Won't eventually happen? Even STO, which tried there best to keep it at least making some sense from the cash shop, eventually added the ability to get stuff like that. Casual players are not going to care about lore at all, and i bet many are going to want swimwear, fancy outfits, etc. Just go to the Nexus, several of the Top armor mods are lore-unfriendly.

Yet LOL is making a whole lot more money and is way more successful than most AAA games out there and is not P2W in any way unlike several MMO's out there. If LOL is as big as it is, and it is NOT a AAA game, think of what a AAA game with its system would be

I personally want SUb with no type of shop for any type of in game items just keep it to RL physical merch (ie Old Blizzard store before they added vanity pets and mounts)

Not having access to Blizzard's exit surveys, we don't know why people are leaving it. But considering that it's nearly nine years old, it's not surprising that the ridiculously high numbers of subscribers are starting to fall down towards proportions more typical of MMOs (a couple million players tops--Prior to WoW, the biggest MMO had barely half a million players, and of the hundreds of MMOs out there, numbers of under a million active players are very common). League of Legends isn't an MMORPG like WoW or ESO either. It's a MOBA. Different style of game for a different target audience.

As a side note, the various so-called "WoW killers" all suffered from the same problem--They were basically WoW with a different setting. Most post-WoW MMOs fall into that category.

Final Fantasy 14 relaunches next week. They're still going with a subscription only payment model. One of the advantages to a company like Square-Enix or Zenimax making the game with their own money--They can take the long view on making it back and go with whatever payment model that they feel is best for the game, rather than having to make a cash grab according to what's best for the investors wallets.

I'm sure the gold rate for CREDD will be very reasonable.

Just like Eve. Makes sense to me. Don't really see this working for ESO but you never know, I guess you could if they make it some mystical soul-substance that prolongs your life.

LOL I was thinking the same thing.

Unless there's some sort of reasonable system in place to make gold easily, I don't see alot of people using this system often. Maybe the rich 1%ers.

Honestly though, this system is preferable to any other non subscription model in my eyes. No microtrans [censored]. You either pay your sub, or you buy time from other players.

This is a great option if you ask me.

There is no "buying" gold. You can trade CRED for gold to another player, but someone has to earn it first. Its not like GW2 gems.

A hybrid system like this in ESO would satisfy me.

I'm not sure about the 'no microtrans' part. Taken from the article - "But what will happen as players acquire greater and greater fortunes, causing the usual MMO inflation? It's a problem that Gaffney hopes to overcome by making sure that there are always more things for players to sink money into, bigger projects and more bells and whistles tugging at that wallet."

That sounds like a cash shop to me. What worries me is that paying $20 gets you your monthly sub time, but then there's this cash shop with stuff in it that you'd have to pay extra for. A sub + a cash shop sounds terrible.

The more interesting part of that article was that WildStar's launch window is now Spring 2014. Not that I'm worried, I think Wildstar will be niche game played mostly by those nostalgic for vanilla WoW but with sci-fi twist.

The model though I agree looks like a best of both worlds. Those who abhor monthly subs will now be able to play the game and earn their monthly game time by just playing the game. Will depend I guess on how much play time will be required to earn enough gold to buy a CREDD for whether or not thats a more viable option for the more casual leaning folks.

Well, the only thing getting inflated is player's gold supplies. If they want to have a cash shop that you spend in game gold on, then I don't have a problem with it. My biggest problem with microtrans is its real money instead of game money. You should be playing and earning stuff, including gold, not whipping out a credit card and buying content.

LOL, are you kidding me. This is pretty much a subscription model. Just because you can buy the subscription from other players instead of the devs, doesn't change that its a subscription required to play. WIldstar is a sub game, ya'll! WOOWOO.

So let me get this straight the only way to play Wildstar is with a subscription but you can buy CRED for gold and pay for your sub that way...interesting.

Now I just wish they would tell me if I still need to fool around with CRED if I pay the subscription with my credit card each month...
