That's fine, but wouldn't a bowman be at a disadvantage against someone who is a master marksman, swordsman, excels at using a warhammer etc.
The article mentions that you can use any weapon with any class, and be good with it.
The question is, can you master all of the weapon types with a single character, or not.
I guess you can, but I don't see a big problem with that in an actual gameplay situation. You can only equip one weapon anyway, at any given time a master archer/swordman is not going to be better with a bow than another master archer with no sword skills.
But we still know too little about the classes and their abilites. It is likely that some classes will take better advantage of certain weapons than others. A bow-mage, while not terrible, might certainly be a curiosity.
Me neither, but it seems to be the end result anyway. At least, there's no space for them on the hotbar: it has 2 weapon ability slots, 3 class ability slots and one powerful class ability slot, that's it.
On the one hand, it means races will mean less mechanically and will be mostly "fluff", visuals and the occasional alternative quest, which svcks for diversity and customisation. On the other hand, it means races won't need many mechanical changes to implement, which leads to vastly fewer balance issues and as such no real excuse why we can't have someone from any race join any of the factions.
If I were to implement active racial abilites, I wouldn't put them on the hotbar. Why should it put me on a disadvantage (less skills to use) to use my natural ability? Why should I be unable to use my racial ability when I have another skill loadout, I don't cease to be an Orc or a Nord just because I "equipped" another ability. It makes more sense to assign a different hotkey to racial abilites.
