"oh give me a break, this is such bull-[censored], how could the PA team stoop so low as to cash-cow themselves like that?"
but despite my balking I downloaded the demo anyway (hypocrite I know) and lo-and-behold I loved it.
I loved the PA:OTRSPOD series for a few reasons:
1) the setting, I found the Lovecraftian 1920s back-drop fantastic. I also loved the parodies and humours twists that the game had. Everything from both the comic strip and Lovecraft's lore was blended really humorously. I also really liked the game's sense of style and graphics.
2) the Music, the PA series features some of the best music I heard in games. It's like something out of a demented Disney Cartoon, and I loved it.
3) the gameplay, as a point'n'click adventure game it wasn't too unique. I still enjoyed some of the puzzles though. the combat was where the game shined. Again, not too out-of-the-ordinary, but I really liked the Paper-Mario feel to it, and the general style of it was very entertaining.
so imagine my excitement and squeals of glee when I found out they were FINALLY MAKING A THIRD ONE!

WHAT THE HELL?!
okay let me say first, I have no doubts this will be a great game in its own right. I was wrong the first time I judged PA and I'm sure my qualms will be wrong this time too.
that being said:
WHAT?! are you serious? they're going the 16-bit craze route?
I mean,
yes, I understand their decision. I actually commend PA for their good deed. Penny Arcade has always supported the little guy; it's how the original Penny Arcade games were made (hothead games). I support what they're doing and I think it's admirable of them to give Zaboyd this opportunity. I also trust in Zaboyd's abilities, I liked Cthulu Saves the World.
but I would've figured they should just fund a new game entirely.
at least for me, Penny Arcade was always the way Hot-head games developed it. this is such a dramatic shift from what the originals were. For me, it's almost like how all the XCOM fans felt when they announced that FPS XCOM game.
Will the character we made in the previous games still make an appearance? (obviously not looking like the original, but the character's place in the game's plot)
Will the game's music be 16-bit as well? for me, that's a huge dissapointment.
just how crazy are they going t oget with the game's setting now? I mean, the original settings were pretty crazy too, but it still felt like there was a consistency to it. I'm worried they're really going to go off the deep end this time.
I don't know, I'm a bit dissapointed really, I definitely plan to check this out, and I hope to be pleasently surprised, but I feel like it won't be the same. :/
anywho, any other fans of the series? what're you guys' takes on this?
