Permanent Corpses

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:07 am

I didn't want to have any crimes on my stat sheet on my current playthrough, which meant that I couldn't become Thane of Riften, despite buying the house, because the quest to become Thane requires you to trespass. Now, despite having decorated my house to the fullest extent possible, the small room in the basemant is trashed because I have no housecarl. I wanted to do something neat with it so I've decided to fill it full of corpses, but I need corpses that are permanent.

Currently, I only have Galmar Stone-Fist in there. I read there's a bug where he and Ulfric's corpses are permanent, so I cast dead thrall on him and took him to my room where I killed him again. Sure enough, he's still down there. Does anybody know of any other corpses that are permanent? During my time in the thieves guild - with another character - I noticed that the two goons in the ratway never seemed to vanish either, so I might try taking them to my house next.

This is more tedious than it's worth. I have stashed eight permanent bodies in my house so far. Argonian, Drahff, Galmor Stone-Fist, Hewnon Black-Skeever, Imperial Soldier, J'zhar, Sailor and Susanna the Wicked. I prefer to avoid generic NPCs, but beggars can't be choosers. Most corpses seem to vanish at one point or another. I refuse to use more than one generic NPC, however. There are several other dead sailors I could use, but I already have a dead sailor.

You don't want to commit any crimes but you want to fill an entire room of your house with corpses?

Hey, they're not corpses of people I murdered. Just random strangers who died in the wilderness for whatever reason, or people who attacked me. Consider it a mass burial of sorts. Besides, my character doesn't mind committing crimes, and is an active daedra worshiper, but I just want my stats to be pure.

It doesn't make sense to me either...

But, if that is what your wanting to do. Then i have been told any named npc will stay forever when killed, so i suppose you can have a big party down there.

Though i may make sure i never come to your house for a party...

I've been bamboozled. Three of my corpses vanished. They didn't get removed from the game - they simply went back to their original locations. It happened to my Argonian and those two thieves from the ratway. The other four are fine, but I think I'm going to go sleep for a week in another house and see what happens to them.

Edit: Another one vanished. I had just put another one in, too. I'm still at four, but I think i'll leave it at that. I was just trying to extend the life of the game, but now I think I'm done with it. I might play it a bit more tomorrow, just running around and goofing off, but I'll be waiting for DLC before I really play it again.

This is not true at all. Trying to keep a corpse party going for dead thralling becomes a constant struggle with loss and sadness. Many NPC corpses disappear the second you leave the house. Others reset to their original location. Some will last up to 7 days and you can keep them there by revisiting your house periodically. Others are tied to a quest and will get removed when you complete the required step in the quest (if they are thralled while you do this, the thrall despawns/vanishes right in front of you).

The design fail of this spell was pretty severe.

I'm back to playing this game and I need more corpses. I went to Solitude and slept for 40 days. I went back to my home in Riften and those four corpses I mentioned were still there. Corpse, Galmor Stone-Fist, J'zhar and Susanna the Wicked. They are the only truly permanent ones that I have found. Every other corpse that I dragged to my basemant was sent back to its previous location. What factors determine whether or not a corpse goes back to its location or not?

Uhm....you don't get any fines or anything for doing the Riften Thane quest. I mean the Jarl is supporting you....

Spoiler

She gives you the key to the warehouse.

I don't care about the fines. I have tons of gold. I just don't want any crimes in my stats sheet.

I do this for every playthrough. There are 5 perms at the Talos shrine, West of the guardian Stones. I use them for containers as well. In 4, 300 hr, level 60 playthroughs they have never reset.

Rigel Strong - Arm ( One of the best DTs in the game. She is and absolute powerhouse with a Two hander )
The High Elf female where you start the encounter for Rigel.
Frightened Woman ( From a random encounter )
Breton female ( random encounter )
Aranea Lenith, She is the Dunmer at Azura's Shrine. If you forego the Black Star, THEN meet a random encounter of a Dunmer on a pilgrimage to Azura, It will list it your quests and she will always show a map marker. Another great DT to take around, as you can never loose her.

I'm on the 360 and none of these have ever reset. For me anyway.

I added two Redguard woman named "Redguard". One from Yngvild and the other from a static ambushed caravan near Solitude. Oddly enough, they look identical. I slept for eight days and returned to the house - both were still there. Granted, I've had bodies disappear despite the eight day test, so we'll see. If they do stay, I may just stop there. Six is enough, as they look neatly organized as it is. If I add another corpse, I'll have to start a new row of corpses. I just wish I could find an Argonian corpse. I found two corpses, but one reverted to its previous location and the other couldn't be dead-thralled.

I'd rather have something in my house than nothing, and since my character is an active daedra worshipper, she is also a cannibal. Makes sense to have a meat locker. It's just difficult finding meat that doesn't vanish every so often.

You eat it too fast. Dead meat is not just walking away.

Interesting. On my latest toon (Ri'Jandi the Khajiit), even though I clicked on the dialog opton with Silus to let him take the shards and beat it, for some reason he opted to attack. So Ri'J killed him. Then took the Razor (though she did tell Dagon to sit on it and rotate, to which he predictably just laughed), and had to fight the two Kynval. Then she went in and looted the shrine. When she came back out, Silus's body was gone. The two Kynval bodies were still there.
