Pickaxe

Can someone give me a location of a pickaxe close to the starting location? Embershard mine YOUD THINK WOULD HAVE TONS but couldn't find one.

I don't want to travel around just looking for a pickaxe for an hour. I've passed a dozen deposits so far.

There is one in Embershard mine, in the section with the drawbridge one of the bandits is mining an Iron deposit, it should drop there.

Thank you. Totally missed that.

Also, is there a way to turn Ore into ingots? The forge doesn't seem to have that option.

Smelter. There's one in Whiterun.
