Pickpocket Perk "Poisoned"

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 3:11 pm

I'm trying to play a thief character who avoids direct combat at all costs.

I've found a lot of luck with the +15 damage daggers perk, cause even without a high one-handed skill I can do some pretty nice damage.

Anyway, was curious if anyone has used the poisoned perk in pickpocketing with much sucess? Would this and alchemy be worth it? Does this aggro enemies in dungeons, or could I safely soften them up and then go for a backstab?

I personally haven't used it, but i don't see the point.

When you're in that position, you are going to get a free x6/15/30 shot with your weapon, which will already decimate the target.

And once you get farther in (not in game right now so i dont think you need the poison to get it) you can just pickpocket someones weapon from them instead.

It's really not useful at all. You can assault people using it without detection, but murder will still register if there are any witnesses to the death, even if you used a duration poison and hid somewhere. In the end, it's just better to sneak attack and not waste the perk.

Extra Pockets is so useful it's worth spending three perks to get, but I don't see a purpose for the other pickpocketing perks beyond novelty.

I'm not worried about getting away with murder, I was more curious if it is useful in dungeons to 'soften up' a boss before a backstab. Then again, I can't remember if undead can be pickpocketed or not..

I'd imagine undead would be impervious to poison anyway.

I have used it when I want to kill someone. I sneak it on their person. I get no fine by the way. I have however only used it about 3 times. Novelty maybe, I dunno. It is nice vs humanoid targets, especially bosses... virulent poison is 50 pts of poison damage. Then you can coat your weapon with another one, then go for the kill. I don't do any kind of crazy enchanting + alchemy + smithing so my daggers aren't doing hundreds/thousands of damage as I like to have more fun than minmaxing. But even 30x isn't giving me the one-shot I want on mini-bosses (3 such hits to take out a deathlord or similar humanoid miniboss). I'm level 42 I think... but my one-handed is only like 35 or 40. My archery is 80. Poison is really nice to coat those as you can only get 3x damage out of those bows. I have roughly ebony quality bows and arrows, no daedric stuff showing up. Of course I have most of the pickpocketing some for novelty (steal weapons/items from their person). If you join the DB it can be a fun way to kill your targets too. I seriously don't think I ever got a bounty for doing it that way. Although a lot of the time I just fury them (I have some illusion perks) and let the guards kill my targets for me. LOL

I've used it with my specially crafted poisons - as soon as I put it in his pocket, he drops down dead - such a brilliant thing to see *evil grin*

Can you put in a frenzy poison, or a paralyzing poison, and get those results?

If your poisons are strong enough, and you won't get that playing vanilla :o, as soon as you place them, they drop mwahahaha. But then again, the poisons I craft do over 9K damage instantly :D
