Pretty disturbing dare I say... weren't these supposed to be a very rare artifact and sold out long ago?

This is the third production run I think, it's another shining example of not being prepared for the demand lol.... Based on the reaction and how the VERY FIRST THING that could be heard once the initial roar died down at the E3 unveiling was "HOW MUCH?!" that should have told Bethesda to call the manufacturer and double the units ordered quick. As it is, due to the mostly negative reviews other than "it's pretty, and I like the box it came in..." most reviews tend to edge toward "it broke just trying to unwrap it" to "I'm scared to touch it, every time I do another piece falls out or breaks"

If they'd had a larger number of units right away, more would've sold. Now I think they're gonna end up with dust covered ones from this run.

That's disappointing. Probably could have made them from high density plastics and aluminum chassis and gotten a higher quality product that was actually worth the price and wouldn't just fall apart. Also missed a really great opportunity to have your phone click into place on the Pip-Boy and run an aux cord (similar to the one SS uses) for hooking up to your controller, doing away with any need for wireless connectivity.

I think it was a late idea and rushed through design and production. Also, the costs for sourcing a proto and then a full production run aren't inconsiderable either, so I can understand wanting to find the balance between rice paper and crayon vs mil grade impact armored lol.

That being said, I think there's an excellent opportunity here for a mechanical engineer to make a heck of a product, make sure you go through channels and acquire proper licensing from Bethesda first, but I like to think if you sweetened the pot heavily in their favor, you could still make out like a bandit for producing the 'indestructible pip boy 3002' or as close as we're going to get in this lifetime.... but just being the guy with a really nice design with better materials, why wouldn't Bethesda let you make them more money? AND increase the happiness level of their 'customers' (instead of settlers, but I like to think they're watching and checking reports like we do now for our settlers lol)

Too bad people realize the pip-boy is a cheap piece of plastic. I already see the pip-boy editions going down in price on ebay after the game was released.
