Places to publish Short Stories

Post » Sun May 12, 2013 3:35 am

The question is as the title reads. Where can I go to publish short stories for the public to read, and make a little food money from doing so in the process? I already looked up some groups to look into, but I like to have many options open in case I find myself in the extremely unlikely event that my masterpieces face rejection from ungrateful people.

EDIT: When I say I already looked into some groups, that does include googling up some names. What I'm asking for is people and organizations you folks would personally recommend. What are they looking for? What do they pay? The usual questions one would have.

I have a bit of a range. Sometimes, I'm doing Sci-Fi (whether it is the action-adventure kind, or the philosophical make you think kind,) and sometimes I'll write fantasy. Horror is a place I like to explore, and character studies are something I live for.

I'll pretty much write any genre, and the style of my stories varies depending on what I'm going for. No matter what though, everything I make always represents something bigger. In other words, I try to keep things intelligent when I'm involved.

Here is something I wrote last week, though its apart of a novel rather than a short story. It's meant to be read like a rough draft, so expect some bits that can be improved upon here and there. I should also point out that it's not exactly complete.
