[REQ] Plastic Surgery

Has anyone made a mod to allow you to recustomize your character via some magical means within the game without having to resort to using the console?

So a way to showracemenu without actually typing it in?

Hm. Pretty sure menus could be called up by scripts in the past games. I know you could do it in Morrowind at least. Would have to wait for the CS to see though.

What idea did you have for it to be implemented in the game? Some item or spell or something?

there should be some way to make a limited version of the face menu, that allows you to change your hair style dirt and war paint. perfect for a salon/barber type mod. also, with the new body types im willing to bet we could script in some body morph functions. scars could be earned, like in fable :P
and maybe we could get fat, like cj in gta SA

The issue with showracemenu is that it messes with Health, Magicka, and Stamina. It takes whatever your layout is and equalizes it across all three attributes.

As for how to implement it in game? Dunno. Maybe an item in the form of a magic mirror that changes the outward appearance of the character to however they desire?

Not to steer your thread astray, but I'm curious about what exactly you mean by it equalizing things. It evens them out? Do you know based on what?

Based on level. Say you had 300 Health, 200 Stamina, 100 Magicka. Using showracemenu would make it 200 Health, 200 Stamina, 200 Magicka.

There's also the issue that using the console sends a message to Steam not to count progress towards achievements.

I remember showracemenu causing a problem in Oblivion as well, but you had to save your game while still in the menu with the console savegame command (IIRC), otherwise,
once you quit the menu with your new face/race, it screwed up your stats etc, then you had to load the game you saved in order to retain your stats.

My memory is a little hazy on this, but I'm pretty sure that was the procedure.

That sounds a bit like what I think I recall reading in another thread about Skyrim.

Ah, makes sense. Though, I've used the console in Skyrim, and it had no effect on my receiving achievements.

Really? I remember the console killed achievements until you restarted the game with New Vegas.

I haven't had any bother with that in Skyrim: I remember the slightly awkward requirement of creating a save before exiting the menu in Oblivion to avoid all the player's stats being reset, but happily that doesn't seem to have happened here.

What is a problem is that for some reason, it resets all the tints (or "make up" for want of a better description) which is a nuisance if you just want to make a minor change as you then have to go back and redo nearly a dozen additional settings to bring your character's colouration back to what it was.

I thought this was the case with Skyrim too, but somebody that examined the innards reassured me that it wasn't enabled for Skyrim.

so does it or doesn't it screw up your stats? Because I would like to be able to use a different haircut every now and then without screwing up my stats?

Not in my experience. It does seem to prevent achievements being updated, though: I have none and can't think of any reason other than my tendency to fiddle about in the console quite a lot (I wasn't launching the TESV executable directly until yesterday, for the record.)

It screws up your attributes in the game, but it doesn't ping Steam to let them know you're a cheater, apparently.

My desire for a mod remains. Or maybe even addition via DLC.

I used showracemenu on my main character a couple of days ago and I've gotten at least 2 achievements on that character since.

Sorry, I meant the thing where opening up the console seems to disable achievements for the remainder of the session as it did in New Vegas. I haven't heard about showracemenu doing anything permanent, although had I not read your post, I may have started getting ideas!

Just tested it. Showracemenu messes up all stats. Main attributes, skills, etc.

It only does that if you change the race or use presets.

That would explain why we're seeing different results. I've only tweaked my character's appearance, which seems to be safe, but I guess changing race also means changing the base stats, so I can understand them being reset.

Maybe some commands do disable the console (maybe TGM?) but definitely not all. I've been able to get achievements just fine when I used the console a few minutes before. I've used the console to change my FOV and even once to get unstuck with TCL, and managed to get an achievement shortly after that without exiting the game.

Could be that. I'm not shy of using tgm or kill if something's becoming too tedious, as well as the subject at hand, showracemenu, since I'm perpetually unhappy with my character's appearance; I guess it's possible I've used all of them and their ilk during each session where an achievement might've been due, so it makes sense that it could be tied to specific commands. Although it's still a bit silly in a single-player game, it's less annoying if that's how they've implemented it.

Anyway, the relevance to this topic being, if anyone uses showracemenu from the command line, it's probably a good idea to save, exit and restart to avoid the risk of achievements being hampered.

I was hoping for a showbarbermenu and showplasticsurgeonmenu holdover from Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

I was hoping maybe there was a Magic Mirror I would come across at some point that would act like the Plastic Surgery Station in Fallout but since this topic is here, I guess that is not the case.

Hmm.
Showracemenu doesn't do anything on it's own.
If you change your Race/Gender/Preset it will reset your stats as if you were an NPC and redistribute them evenly.
If you use showracemenu and only change your character's appearance you will only lose your active spell effects, such as blessings and enchantments. Enchantments can be returned by re-equipping the item. Blessings are obvious. Spell effects caused by passive abilities like "Imperial's Luck" will need to be restored through the console.
If you pay attention to what you're doing you shouldn't have any problems.
