so I played WoW tonight with my mom......

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 6:52 pm

My Dad is in the hospital and wanted my mom and I to message some of his WoW buddies(he's 75 by the way). I have never played the game but he left instructions on what to do. So my mom's reading them to me while im trying to figure out where to go(some mailbox in front of a bank) and all the sudden I hit the wrong button and I'm casting spells in the middle of town and it got all crazy! After reloading and trying again we finally found it and I had to google how to exit the game lol but I had a lot of fun with my mom playing WoW. :-D

My Dad is 75 playing WoW.

My mind = Blown.

My dad is 58 and he doesn't even know how to turn his cell phone on. (I'm being dead serious about that)

actually doesn't surprise me, high fantasy was pretty big about 50 years ago, so i am sure that if many older people got past their ignorance of techknowledgey or technophobia they'd enjoy rpg's

We also had a recent thread where someone posted this article about a seventy year old woman who raids in WoW (whatever that means)

the more i think about it, the more it would make sense to me that there be more elderly wow players, the retirement community probably has a great deal of time to spend on instances? (is that a thing in wow?)

Playing video games is how I plan on keeping my mind active when I'm old. Forget reading and doing crossword puzzles.

I envy you. So damn much.

My dad was wondering what I was spending 3+hrs a day on for the last few months.
He tried playing it. He's 51.

Oh god the horror. :cryvaultboy:
He played for 3 hours and was beyond even the noobiest scrub.

He couldn't even move decenlty. He'd do this thing were hed change the view with the camera, walk a few meters, stop, change the view again, walk a few more meters it toon him 15min just to get from the valley of trials to Sen'jin village. Something that usually takes me <3min.
And when fighting, he'd click the mob constantly. Before he used an ability, he'd click the mob then the ability. Even in the middle of a fight.

I tried to correct him, but to no avail. He thought he was doing pretty good. I didn't have the heart to tell him :shakehead:

And I'm all for old gamers. The healz on my main raid team is a 68yr old war vet. He's the best priest I know. Out of all the times we've wiped, its never been his fault.

Oh, god. My parents are smart, capable people, but they know absolutely nothing about computers. Well, my dad tries. Sigh. I can't imagine getting either of them into gaming. It was difficult enough explaining to my dad how to use email.

Funny thing is, now that he's been using his laptop for two years (like a monkey would a typewriter, mind you), he has the temerity to tell me how to do stuff when I have to help him with more technical things. Dad, shut up! :wallbash:You think the internet is on your computer!

I am just glad I don't have to tell my kids where all the good loot is in games anymore. Well, not so often, anyway.

My dad asked me about how multiplayer works on BF3 a few weeks ago. After 30 minutes of explaining how a server works he still couldn't figure out how I was able to play with someone half way across the world. He has no concept of the "Internet" and how it works. Just that if he types in "fishing outfitters" on google all his favorite sites come up where he can buy things.

Same here. I tried to explain email to him this way:
"Imagine your laptop is a house. Imagine gmail is like a post box. Now, you have to get in your car and drive to the post office to send and receive your mail." He just couldn't understand it.
"Okay. The internet is like a mall. You have to drive to the mall -- that is, the internet -- from your house -- that is, your laptop -- to do stuff." He still couldn't understand it.

I've given up.

My dad played through Metal Gear Solid on PSX three times in one week. He's finished Deus Ex twice and has put over sixty hours into Just Cause 2.

He thinks people that play WoW need to get a life.

This.

I hate when people say I'm "addicted" to WoW just because its mainly the only game I play. If I played a myraid of other games, no one would notice.

OP, I hope your Dad is okay, but it sounds like you had a pretty funny experience.

I played WoW for a while, am dabbling in SWTOR at present, played to level cap in Rift. MMOs can be fun if you have other friends playing them, and you are all online shooting the breeze while playing. WoW is a fun game - I played most of it like a single player RPG, but raiding and PvP can be fun or challenging or both. OR sometimes just flatout maddening.

Thank you so much! He went home today and is doing well. Now just the long road to recovery. Can't wait to take him out for a steak!

My 41 year old dad plays TES. He played Arena, then Morrowind, Oblivion, now he's enjoying Skyrim.

(I really like my dad.)

"Honey, did you take out the trash mobs like I asked you to?"

"Get off your lazy butt and do your fetch quests."

"Eat your [Rhinolicious Wormsteak] before it gets cold."

"Are you ganking noobs? I will have none of that in my guild!"

"Clean your vault right now young man!"

I tried to get my dad into TES when I had Morrowind on Xbox about 6 years ago. He couldn't even figure out how to work the controller.
