So player houses?

Post » Wed Dec 08, 2010 6:31 am

So for those that have not gotten to the New Vegas Strip AND have not talked to Mr. House yet you might want to stop reading here.

So ok we get the Lucky 38 as a player house which is awesome. It's upgradeable, double plus! AND you can send your minions to meet you there as opposed to where you found them, triple plus!! But it's a little creepy, awww. And you can't fast travel straight to it, double awww.

So here are my questions:

Are there any others?

If so where?

Are they also upgradeable?

Can you send your minions to wait for you there?

Are there any good abandoned buildings worth making your home?

Are there any good occupied buildings worth slaughtering it's occupants to make your home?

The Lucky 38 is not a recruitable character. It is the building in which the player's room is.

Honestly, it's nice but several issues:

Right now characters get lost/never make it to the 38 if you tell them to go there.

It takes like 5 load screens to get there from anywhere that isn't the Strip, that's a lot considering how slow this game loads (360) after just a few hours of play.

You follow the main story line and he gives you a place to stay. And you can fast travel to the door of the strip. Then you have to go through the door, run to the casino, go in the door, and then go up the elevator to your room. Kind of annoying like Ten Penny Tower in FO3

Almost each faction will give you a "safe house" if you get your approval high enough and do quests for them. The Brotherhood safe house is pretty convenient; it even has a paladin who'll show up to repair stuff from time to time, plus it's got both an ammo bench and a work bench. The NCR safehouse, in comparison, is pretty lame.

As far as I can tell, you can't send your followers to them like you can the Lucky 38. You also can't upgrade them yourself.

Are there any good abandoned buildings worth making your home?

Well, I rather like the abandoned shack near the cross monument near Goodsprings for my first base. It's got an ammo bench and a bed and storage.

Right now characters get lost/never make it to the 38 if you tell them to go there.

I haven't encountered that at all. I sent all my companions there when they outlive their usefulness (ie I do their personal quests) and none of them had any trouble finding their way. Even from places like the crashed vertibird.

Hey thanks for the info!

But now it looks like I'll have to build my own house. Hopefully I can get the scripting down so that I can build an addon/upgrade interface as well! Oh and of course a fast travel button :)

You can also get a house at the Atomic wrangler (or something like that) in Freeside if you do a few quests for the owner. There also well paying quests if you have a high speech/barter.

If you join the Rangers, you get another safehouse.

If you join the BoS, you get a safehouse.

If you join Caesar's Legion, they give you a safehouse.

Unfortunately, I have notj joined any of these groups yet, so I could not give you specific details wuthout scrounging throughh my sdtrategy guide. But yes, there are multiple houses.

After finishing Boone's request while in Novac. I got the motel. Got a free room and the motel key. I am being idolized in Novac. After the motel keeper is gone, the guy in the dino belly "returned" the motel key to me.
