Playing a 2H build

Post » Sun Aug 04, 2013 3:14 am

Hey

First time ever playing a Melee character - and I decided to play with some heavy weapons.

Bloody hell its difficult early level. I keep getting killed in 2 hits, even though i'm wearing heavy armour, and the weapon moves so slowly. If I get shield bashed i'm screwed :P

Anyone got any tips for a melee noob like me? (I'm staying 100% away from magic + I'm using Skyrim Redone)

Thanks guys&Girls

Maybe the problem is with the mod, and not the actual build? :D

2h weapon category is my favourite one, and I've never had any difficulties with using it, improve smithing skill and put more points in stamina when you level up, if you enchant your weapons put some instant effects, make sure your hits will be very painful to opponents, consider that your attack speed is low, so your weapons will actually benefit from the smithing refinement more than from enchanting, so you might consider on putting enchants like stealing stamina on your weapons instead of making a damage effects.

I also highly suggest to use heavy armour, even though it will make you slower from the start, you will unlock skill that will remove particular attribute from your set (unlocked in heavy armour skill tree).

Hope this helps, and remember - 2h weapon is a heavy argument! Those who dispute usually end up with their bones broken. :P

Yer it may be the mod actually in that respect. Any tips about combat or dealing with mages/archers? I have a Crossbow at the moment to deal with archers, but I feel that defeats the purpose of a 2h warrior :P

You need to take out mages as soon as you can. Use rocks or other formations to get the advantage. Do your best to avoid Ice Storm. Frost Mages are the worst.

There is skill for a 2h weapons that allows to make a power attack while moving towards the target. Particular skill does not force your character to stop, instead Dragonborn does some steps forward (rangers will not be able to run away fast enough) and deals devastating blow that will stagger your opponents most of the time, giving you enough time to finish the nasty archer / mage.

Having two weapons with you is also a good idea, use hammers against single, powerful targets, and for the group control it is good to have a greatsword with you.

TRUE 2h weapon potential unlocks with "Swipe" skill, that allows to hit EVERY TARGET in front of you when performing power side-attacks, as I remember perk can be unlocked at 70 level of you 2h skill mastery.

So do the different 2h weapons do different things?

Get the Atronach stone for mages, absorbs half what they throw at you and if you're a Breton it stacks with their power for 100% absorb. You don't need magicka so the penalty won't matter.

For archers, keep moving and zig-zagging. Also get a staff of summoning to make a distraction.

What do you mean?

Warhammers do the most damage, and Greatswords do the least. Battleaxes are in the middle.

Warhammers are the slowest and Greatswords are the fastest. For some odd reason, Battleaxes are as fast as Greatswords.

Warhammers also do more stagger in addition to damage. There are two unique warhammers that swing as fast or faster than a Greatsword if you know where to get them.
