Playing Pony Games with 360 Controller?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 1:13 am

Need little help here. Looking for a program to do this cause I wish to try it out, and sounds fun, but I don't wish to pay for something I may or may not use. Also, I wouldn't really have the money since I am most likely will NOT have any more 'Game Money' after I get a new computer and Skyrim for the PC.

So can anyone help me out here please?

Do you have a wired controller? If you do, then no programs are necessary. Just about all games to come out these days have controller support, especially for 360 pads.

Why would you want to play with anything less heavenly than a mouse-and-keyboard combination?

Personal preference. I prefer playing third-person and driving games with my 360 pad, but I always play FPS games on PC with a mouse/keyboard.

I have a wired controller. Thx for saying so.

@Sivartus: I had Skyrim for the Xbox too long that I am use to playing Skyrim like so. Same thing with Arena - Morrowind. I'm use to playing those games on the Computer that cannot even play Morrowind for the Xbox anymore.

You don't need any extra programs, Skyrim (and most other multiplatform games) already supports the 360 controller.

Because they have different opinions than you? Your "heavenly" mouse-and-keyboard is my "wrist torture," depending upon the game. I'm also just much more comfortable with a controller in my hand, if I'm being honest.

Older games don't, though. Say you want to play Morrowind with a 360 controller. There's no support for that. Minecraft's another good example; it's a bit clunky, but once you find the sweet spot for the cursor speed it's fine and it saves my wrist a ton of pain. There are far more obvious games I could point out, but I won't in deference to forum rules.

I've found that xpadder is a great program for this. Completely customizable, very lightweight, and usable with just about any game/program. Just set the game's controls to whatever your set up is.

Guys, my post was half a joke. I don't denounce personal opinion or preference, just for the record. :P

I'm considering picking up a 360 controller as well, for the games that handle better with a controller. Usually platformers like Super Meat Boy and third person action games such as Darksiders work better on a controller. I suppose it's also useful for racing games so you have more control over steering, but I don't play racing games.

I also have a game on Steam called Shank which does not control well on keyboard at all.

That's good, then. I've been wanting to get one as well but didn't want to buy one and then find that something else was needed.
I've been trying to drive cars and bikes in Saints Row 2 (with the keyboard and mouse) and find it next to impossible :(

Any game that has 360 version should support controller on PC ports. However you cannot just unplug your 360 controller and plug it in your PC cause it's not USB, you need a PC 360 controller.

or a converter that cost like $5

Majority of the games that are multiplatform support the 360 controller. Including some exclusive titles such as Wticher 2 (for now its exclusive) and Crysis (was exclusive for 3 years) Battlefield 3 PC fully supports 360 controller which is best for flying/driving but not much on foot.

The 360 controller is USB, you don't need a special one for the PC. Unless it's a wireless one, then you need a receiver.

What are you talking about? I do exactly that with my wired 360 controller all the time.

first gen 360 controllers are not USB and does require a converter. Such as http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31AkO-UjZ%2BL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Latest gen 360 are they USB? never followed such.

That's for the original Xbox controller (without the end head, but the plug for you to connect an extension cord to), not the 360. Though even the original xbox used a USB controller, just with a proprietary connector. You could solder it to a normal USB connector and it would work fine.

Nope, you're both wrong, that's just the breakaway. All 360 wired controllers are USB.

Most modern games have out-of-the-box controller support for xbox controllers. I personally use my wireless xbox 360 controller for a lot of 3rd person action games and platformers. I prefer the mouse&keyboard but playing games like Dungeon Defenders without a controller is just awkward.

Oh, they kept the breakaway point on the 360 controller for extension cables? It looks exactly the same as the original xbox's breakaway point. Guess they didn't change much of anything other than getting rid of that stupid proprietary usb connector design.

So that means I'm neither right nor wrong because it's the exact same part as the original xbox's :P
