Playing Skyrim without tab-key

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 11:51 am

Hello,

The tab-key of my laptop does not work. I never cared too much about this malfunction, until I bought Skyrim, since it seems impossible to play the game without this key.
I cannot change keys in Skyrim because you need the tab-key to enter the menu. I've tried changing the tab key and the caps-lock key using a device called 'SharpKeys'. This made it possible to use tab in programmes like Word, but not in Skyrim.
Is there, or will there be, any solution, or can I never play Skyrim without my tab-key?

Grtz,
Cyd

You can use AutoHotKey to remap any other key to act as the Tab key.

See my post on using this workaround:

The keys are remapped on the fly, with no permanent changes to your system registry. The remapping stops when you switch off the background script.

Okay, thanks. So what do I type in the text document?

Tab::Capslock or Capslock::Tab

Or something else?

When I click escape, a window pops up saying something about a quest menu. The only way to exit this menu, is by using tab ....

I wouldn't substitute Caps Lock as a Tab key because Caps Lock is a toggle key that remains permanently on or off. So it would be likely to do funky things. :)

Choose another key like the Left Windows key. Most Windows keyboards have another Right Windows key so one can be spared, like a kidney. ;)

The script for that would be:

LWin::Tab
