Playing with video game headphones

Post » Thu Aug 02, 2012 7:14 am

I bought a wired turtle beach headset and this was my first time with "video game headphones" (I always played trough the tv speakers) and I have to say I was missing out on all the little sounds in the game. Like when you're walking inside a house you can hear all the jingles and boot-on-floorboard sounds. Lockpicking sounds way different, picking ingredients sounds crazy. But I just have to say there is a plethora of sounds Beth put in the game that I am just now discovering. Great job, Beth.

I only go to my Bose cans when I want to scare myself silly playing Dead Space 2, I get enough ambiance through my TV for Skyrim but enjoy the extra immersion. :)

Playing Skyrim without a 5.1/7.1 home system/headphone is like eating a cheeseburger without cheese! It adds tons to immersion.

I used to always play games late night after kids sleeping with the sound on like "glad they got subtitles" levels. Then I picked up some gaming headset, sharkoons. I tried out triton and turtle beach too.

I must admit, it was such a game changer.

But - then I got some good headphones, not even any more expensive than the gaming ones. Just decent headphones.

Do yourself a favor and sell those turtle beaches asap - they sound horrible and they're probably just going to break on you in a couple months. Get a decent headphone amplifier and some real studio style headphones. The difference is tremendous and will only cost you a little more.

I like to play through my Sony MDR-V6 or Sennheiser HD-280 and I have a cmoy amp that I made.

My Sharkoons still get used, but only by my kids.

Part of the issue is the game is very quiet. Even at max volume settings I have to turn the speakers up way further than I'd normally want to do.

Sennheiser HD-280

I have a set of this brand but they are the HD203 model. They are really nice and even tho they are large headphones they don't weigh much.
