Is playing without Blacksmithing even viable?

Im lvl 41 and have no perks in smithing. Been doin just fine with what I have found. Just started enchanting @ lvl 40 for fun :D

ALSO, my character has been a stealth light armor assassin thief. So mostly bows and dual wielding swords up close, lil dagger use for instakills n stuff :D

I got mobbed by 5 falmer at this level and it turned ugly fast. They, along with some other mobs, do seem to have a superior ability to locate you in spite of a very high stealth skill. Whereas other mobs you can practically sit on their lap and they don't "See" you.

That's because they're blind. They find you by sound and smell.

my sneak attack is so deadly I don't need to be skilled in smithing, armor, or even one handed :D

Answering main question. Haven't read thread. I play dead is dead master difficulty without smithing and enchanting. So yes it is viable lol. Beat the game with no smithing no companion no training no alchemy and with no deaths.....

it is possible, with my 3rd play through i am only just now improving my armor. in my 2nd and main play through i leveled smithing up to 100 because i wanted to make dragon armor and see what it was like, but never improved my armor. neither the weapons either because i was a mage.

This post made me laugh outloud! You are a roleplayer, like me!

I'm not sure it's so much that as the simple fact that my suspension of disbelief only goes so far.

I have a level forty nine spell sword that has invested nothing into smithing. Yes it fan be done just fine, remember you can improve your gear without investing perks into your smithing and your character is still perfectly viable. If you wish to invest a few perk pints in it to ahead you do not have to max the perks out.

Going to attempt my first Stealth character but I have a concern, I've already mapped out how I'm going to pick my perks and there is just no room for Blacksmithing but it seems like improving weapons and armor makes such a huge difference that you'd be insanely gimped without it. Is it even possible to get by without wasting perks on crafting?
you don't need the perks, smithing is so powerful already that all you have to do is raise the skill to 100 and thats all you need.
