Playstation 4 Slim confirmed - $299

Playstation 4 Pro confirmed - $399

Release Date: 10 November 2016

pretty much an upgrade to everything, but no hard specs.

4K gaming (obviously not going to be native 4K, but upscaled or rendered), HDR, PS4 compabilitiy. All games can be played between both systems, discs and downloads.

4K Streaming, no 4k BRD. That svcks.

It'll have HDR, but the original PS4 will be getting it patched in.

Hope they give a good reason to upgrade. I doubt every dev is gonna add new specs for every game.

Not every game, but I'm sure those that can will do it for new games.

If it's a game that is on PC, you can bet they'll set the specs for both since it already has the capability.

Maybe, but my major concern there is optimization. I'd rather play a game totally stable at a lower setting than slightly stable at a higher one.

But double the GPU power eh? I've got money and it is tempting, but so is a desktop.

I hear ya. however considering how well *most* games have been optimized, it's been shown so far how relatively easy it has been on devs to work with the hardware so I'm not very concerned about that.

Hell, even the No Man's Sky PS4 version was better optimized than the PC version (I use that as a comparasion, but a loose one...just trying to make a point).

For $400 though, that seems like a good deal. We obviously don't have the specs yet, but most we anticipating this to come out with like a $500+ pricepoint...and nope, same price as the PS4 at launch. Question for many will be what type of trade-in deals can you get. I didn't trade in last gen (didn't see the point when I could just upgrade the hard drive myself), but I'm probably going to do so now. Just hoping Gamestop has a trade-in event...like $150 for the old PS4, so upgrading cost no more than $250

Hopefully it all works out, but I'm still wary of optimization issues. I always am. Some devs prioritize graphics over stability and you can't change most graphics settings on a console.

The point is fair, PC has gotten the short end of the stick on many cross-platform games. It also has the community to help mitigate that through mods and you can change settings to help balance out the bad optimizations.

I'm anticipating $500. I doubt they'd go higher as that'd push too many people away. Then again, they might just go $400 just to push sales. Someone sees the PS4 slim and thinks, for just $100 more I could have the PS4 Pro instead. For those that don't want to take that leap, the slim is there. But I'm expecting $500 at launch and then a drop to $400 within a year.

In terms of trade in deals, I'd be wary of parting with my PS4 before ensuring everything transfers correctly. I'd rather not have to redownload many of the games I have on there. Assuming account info transfers without a hitch.

I will buy a PS4 slim, which will also be my first PS4. I hope the rumoured 1TB model is released next week too and not just the 500GB model.

It's already been confirmed to be a $400 launch.

Considering the capability, what we suspect the specs will be, and what has been advertised with Project Scorpio...

This pretty much seems like a performance level between The XB1 S and the XB1 PJ.

Oh, I thought the price point wasn't decided yet. Cool. They made the smarter move and went $400.

I'll likely pick it up a couple months after it releases.

im not in a hurry to get a PS4, although I plan to at somepoint..

it used to be you buy a console near launch so you can get games that interest you before they become hard to find, but since digital distribution is now a thing if you buy your console later and can't find a copy of a game on your list you can at least get it digitally (although, I do prefer having the actual box on my shelf :) )

I never had that thought process of when to buy a console and games being hard to find...then again, I never found it hard to find games (I guess that mainly has to do with your location...if you live in the city or a populated suburb, the game stores usually had plenty to go around...and if not, there was another one not too far from you). It was more for me about getting the console when I thought the platform was stable, usually about 8 months to a year after launch, sometimes even later. There are always games I would want to play on a new console, but usually I could find them on the previous gen as well. After about a year though, the game you get on the old console is no where near the new console...and that gap is getting wider at a quicker pace.

I pretty much use the same approach with car generations. I never buy a car when it's the first year of a generation, usually 2-3 in. I remember working for Ford and doing recalls on the 1st and 2nd year Ford Focuses like it was part of the package deal on all sold Focuses. It was ridiculous. After about year 3, Ford got all the nuances worked out from an engineering and manufacturing standpoint.

As for you waiting to get a PS4 and continuing to wait, you might as well just wait until the price drops on the Pro.

Specs seem to be out. Or at least theorized.

So power wise, it'll be the most powerful console for this holiday season. Next year though.....different story.

The Playstation Pro has two layers, the regular PS4 has just one layer...sign me the {beep} up :P . Actually I'll just stick with my regular PS4 even if I got the Pro without a tv that plays 4k the pro is nothing more than a regular PS4.

So, for the vast majority of people who don't yet have a 4k tv, the PS4 pro and xbox equivalent are pointless?

If so how can the new ps4 support this

PS4 Pro FAQ; https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2016/09/08/ps4-pro-the-ultimate-faq/

They aren't fully pointless though, since they will run the games with more graphical effects and higher framerate.

Still, that's not really enough to make me lose focus from the PS4 slim. I value it being smaller, quieter and using less power a great deal.

It doesn't render games in native 4K, but use 2x2 checkerboard rendering, which the PS4 Pro support in hardware so all developers can use it easily. So it basically just render half the pixels. But that's still twice as many pixels than 1080p, so it's a visual improvement.

Ok, interesting article now just came out, but I heard about this last night talking to a friend who mentioned it so I did some searching this morning. I am actually quite shocked at the claim, and would love to see it. I don't understand how it is possible, I really don't. But if it's true...just wow.

Naughty Dog is claiming that TLOU Remastered can run Native 4K on the PS4 Pro.

http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/the_last_of_us_remastered/news/the_last_of_us_remastered_can_run_at_native_4k_on_ps4_pro.html

At lower resolutions, 60 FPS. Probably looking at either 1080P or 1440P at 60 FPS, depending on the game and the developer, as always. I honestly can't see any game running lower than 1080P at 60 FPS, no excuse not to be able to achieve that. Though maybe I could think of one developer that could have problems working with a Sony product... I won't mention any names. :fallout: :tes:

Yeh, I saw that like an hour after the event. My personal favorite though that I saw was a photoshop that had a Pro with lettuce and meat and cheese sticking out like a sandwich.
