Please bring back soul gem feature from Morrowind

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 6:13 am

In Morrowind, filled soul gems displayed the name of the soul's previous owner. Even though this made them unstackable, I think the role-play value it provided far outweighed this inconvenience. It made capturing the soul of a non-generic creature much more satisfying, since you had a named soul gem to show for it. One of my favorite things to do in Morrowind was to collect the unique souls and display their soulgems in a special room. I had them all: all members of the Sixth House, Lord Dregas Volar,Dahrk Mezalf, etc. I felt so evil and powerful.

In newer TES games you can even capture NPC souls. I wouldn't mind having Nazeem's soul on display :P

You can kind of display souls by naming enchanted items after the souls previous owner. I would not mind named soulgems, but they would in that case need a separate tab in the menu.

I agree they should bring this back, and it wouldn't even be inconvenient cause soul gems dont stack in this TES either.... That really pisses me off, I have to scroll thru 20 petty and lesser gems in my inventory. FIX IT BETHESDA!

Only if you only capture one person then enchant an item and place it somewhere. Named soulgems were much easier and precise then that :) Especially if you have multiple soul gems of the same type filled.

I thinks it would be a good idea to bring this back, I'd love to have a collection of important peoples souls :D.

Eh, that's not the same. It would require careful management (so as not to mix one gem with another) and the fact that gems are not named really takes the pleasure out of the whole exercise. For me anyway.

I know that.

I also had every important named enemy in a soul gem. I never realized just how many Dagoth's there are until I counted all of their souls one day (38). There's also Staada, Khash-Ti Dhrur and Beldoh the Undying.

I always thought this was a much tidier way of keeping psycho souvenirs than filling up your home with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHvx0l_tVEw or whatever. :P

I still gloat over Almalexia's soul in Azura's Star on my shelf.

I wouldn't mind the feature if it was similar to Morrowind, in that the only 'Named' soul gems you had were Named, non-generic enemies. Randomly killing non hostile, town NPCs to capture their souls isn't something that would sit well with me. :P

Yeah it would make it more meaningful when I kill someone and capture there soul and then make them a thrall. I can have the gem with their name on it and there zombie body.

Fixed.

Trapping someone's soul is a pretty nasty business. "M'aiq was soul trapped once. Not very pleasant. You should think about that once in a while."

That's also a good feature to bring back for Azuras Star souls that are too big for normal grand souls. Which of course would mean we would need demi god npc characters.
