Hello please help me!! So i have the problem where farkas always follows you and this is keeping me from doing a number of quests. I know to fix this you just have to pay your bounties. But i cannot pay any bounties because everytime i do or choose jail my game freezes. I am doing the theives guild right now and my next quest is in Markarth but i cannot do it because Markarth is one place i have a bounty. So this glitch is majorly screwing my game up and keeping me from completeing the companions, 3 dadric quests and the rest of the theives guild. If anyone knows how to fix this please help. I am playing on 360 fyi. thanx

I'm guessing you don't have any earlier saves to which you're comfortable reverting?

Have you tried going to a small settlement in The Reach to see if you could pay your bounty there? Like Karthwasten?

Can you try an option like Persuade or Bribe so you're not 'teleported' to the city?

there is no save i want to revert to bc ive been doing other quests waiting for a patch. i found one way that works and that is waiting for a bounty collector and paying him. but when i paid him now, the bounty did not clear. There is no option for persuade or bribe for me in Markarth but there is in other holds. You can pay off bountys in town too? i did not know that

As I understand the bounty system: the crimes are tracked by "hold". You should be able to pay your bounty to any guard carrying a shield with the ram's head logo of Markarth. The Reach is a large area and Markarth is the capital (for lack of a better word). So if you went to Karthwasten, walked by the guards until one of them said, "Wait. I know you.", then talk to them, you may get the option to Bribe them. I think if you pay it outright they still take you to Markarth and that may be causing the freeze-up. I was hoping you had some kind of option to 'take care of it right here' and avoid going to town. I'm hoping you can Bribe them, but you may not have that option until you've done the Special Job (which sounds like what you're working towards). I think the Persuade option doesn't clear your bounty - it only gets that specific guard to walk away, but it might be enough to complete quests.

This is supposedly a common problem, both Farkas/Vilkas/Aela all following you like a guard and the game freezing when you try to go to jail/pay a bounty. It's supposedly caused by stolen quest items and such in your inventory. Try this: Put ALL of your items in a safe container, like one in your house, then go turn yourself into the guards and pay your bounty/go to jail. The game should stop freezing if you go there carrying nothing but what you can't drop. And Farkas will go the hell away because you have no bounty, hooray!

I had a freeze when arrested problem once and here is how I fixed it: Run steam, click libraries, right click elder scroll skyrim, properties, local files, verify integrity of game cache. Good lucks.
