Please Help! Skyrim's Sound Cuts Out

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 6:08 pm

Hey everyone! I've been having a really frustrating issue with Skyrim. I've been trying to look everywhere for a solution but have come to no avail. Basically, the sound will cut out during gameplay. Usually its after playing for a little bit, maybe 15-30 minutes, then all the sound cuts out, everything is mute. The only way to fix it is to exit Skyrim, unplug my speakers, replug them back in, and restart Skyrim. As you can see, its quite frustrating >.<

As far as the hardware I use for sound, I'm using Bose Companion 5 speakers, which are unique because they use a USB driver and no sound card, so I'm not sure if Skyrim just doesn't like them or what. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.

I've tried multiple things to try to fix this issue, but none of them have worked:

*I've fiddled a ton with the sound settings for the speakers. I have disabled all enhancements and exclusive mode as well as gone under the communications tab under the device properties and selected the "do nothing" option.
*I've disabled all other sound devices on my computer (since I have a sound card and all I've disabled those, even those my Bose speakers are set to the default device).
*I've gone under the power settings and selected the option to disable USB selective suspend setting.
*I've made sure all my drivers for the sound system are up to date.
*I've checked microsoft for any USB audio problems. They released an update for Win 7 for problems with USB audio, the update is installed already on my computer.

I think thats all I've tried, but it seems to be everything I can think of to do. Its all extremely frustrating and I literally don't know what else to try. Does anyone have any ideas? I would super appreciate the help!

Thanks!
