My (UK) home broadband connection is slo--o-o-ow (thanks BT for the rubbish telephone exchange)... whereas my work broadband connection is very fast indeed.
Logging into Steam last night at home, I'm prevented from playing FONV (I bought a retail copy) because Steam wants to update my game to the latest version (haven't played online in a while, it being Christmas and all). I'm getting approx. 25kbps and the latest update is going to take approx. 6 hours or worse to download.
I don't have this problem with other games I play - the patches are available on the internet somewhere, I d/l on my fast work connection, copy the patch over to a memory stick, take it home, etc etc...
Oh, and I can't install Steam on my work PC, and I can't install games on it either, so that option's not available.
All I want is to be able to d/l the 1.2 patch over a fast connection from Bethesda's website (or wherever), copy it to a memory stick, and execute it on my home PC. I should add I'm hapy enough to have Steam online (or offline - if I remember to switch the cookies option to"off" when I delete my browsing history...) while I'm playing, and for logging in etc. I just hate being forced to update over my awful home broadband connection via Steam.
How hard can it be for Bethesda to help those of us with slow internet connections with this? I mean, what's the downside if they hosted the updates here?
