Howdy! Well, that time is about to be upon me. This May I will be graduating with a History BA and Religion BA as well as a 4.0 GPA. I've been vacillating between different career paths throughout my time in university. As most would tell you, the obvious option is teaching, but I don't think I have the confidence to instruct. Next, I was heavily considering a Master's of Public Administration; however, recently, I've been wanting to become some sort of librarian and attend school for either a Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science. My verbal GRE score was great, quantitative was lacking a bit, and writing was good. I have also studied abroad, if that matters.
Anyhow, my girlfriend and I are taking a year off after graduating where she'll continue to rack up lab experience in preparation for her PhD in Psychology. In the meantime, I think it would be prudent for me to get a year of volunteer experience at the local library on top of a regular job.
Here's my chief concern: am I shooting myself in the foot in terms of a career? I hear differing opinions regarding the state of the library job market, and I do not want to jump into something if I cannot find work.
