Pony Quest - Immortal Hoof

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:24 pm

anyone play? i recommend this game to anyone looking for a decent modern-ish hack n slash while waiting for diablo 3 or torchlight 2..

been playing on and off for over a year and still not reached max level (im level 66 assassin and max is 75) can also be played online co op. good loot system, replay value blah blah blah...

"Players take the role of a hero, fighting monsters in three ancient, classical world settings including http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparta/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Greece, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Egypt and the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silk_Road/Asia. The game was conceived by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Empires co-creator http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Sullivan_%28game_designer%29 and uses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragdoll_physics, full lighting effects, day-night cycles, accurate ancient world mythology, modern 3D graphics, unique treasures, and rapid gameplay. There is also a sophisticated world editor for players to create their own custom worlds, mods, and quests. The game contains over a thousand pieces of usable equipment, both common and rare, for the player to loot. Titan Quest gets significantly harder throughout the experience, which requires the player to make good skills and attribute point choices even at the beginning of the game."

What I like about the game is that every monster you kill has a chance to drop the gear it wears.

Yeah I have it, played it about 8 hours or so, so far. But haven't touched it in about 2 weeks. Maybe this weekend. I do enjoy it.

I've played it quite a bit. Getting to level 75 is definitely only for someone who wants the trophy of it, the last 10 or so level take an incredibly long time.

Titan Quest (with Immortal Throne) is quite a bit of hack n slash fun. There's nothing terribly innovative about it even for the genre but definitely some fun. I liked that you could mix specialties (dual type characters) if you wanted.
I found the items/loot to be not quite as addictive as Diablo2 for some reason but they're still decent. The runes and artifacts were cool, except often by the time you could make artifacts, they weren't that powerful for your chr. anymore. A couple of the skill trees were more overpowered than the others but that's also typical.

As to Titan Quest vs. Diablo2 - well, they're pretty similar in terms of gameplay (set up in Acts, waypoints, etc), but with variations on skills/skill building and items. Titan Quest has better graphics and high resolutions, so if you prefer that, might want to try it first. But Diablo2 has a higher "addiction factor" re: loot hunting, imo at least. Titan Quest/IM has a shared town stashbox feature, for easily sharing between different characters - which last I knew Diablo2 didn't have.

I still think Diablo2 is the better game overall, despite its age...just depends on what features you're looking for in your hack n slash.

why not both? if you play diablo 2 try using the hi res mod and large inventory stash & cube mod. median XL is supposed to be a good mod but i havent tried it yet. to randomly generate maps just start a local network game

for titan quest i recommend using the TQDefiler mod (might be frowned upon in online play though)

i've been playing it for a while now, and honestly, it's not keeping me into the story very much, there are far too many trash mobs everywhere, and even though i was killing all the monsters i could find before going further it seems i still wasn't leveling fast enough to keep on par with the next set of monsters i had to fight

Spoiler
i was being slaughtered by the telkine no matter what i tried by the time i encountered him at the end of the first act

One doesn't generally play these sort of games for the sparkling and engaging story.

Titan Quest is one of my favorite hack n slash games, right after Diablo 2. I enjoyed it a lot. The graphics is great, the music is epic, there are various monsters, quests, items and it's pretty addicting. I completed the game twice, but only in normal though, with a Thane (Warfare & Storm) and Elementalist (Earth & Storm). I think I will complete it soon with my Ritualist too (Nature & Dream).
My original goal was to pass the game in normal with all 36 classes, but damn, that's a lot of work.
There are only two things that I hate about this game, though:
1) The 5th act (Hades) is ridiculously hard.
2) The maps are not random. It gets boring passing through same corridors and landscapes over and over and over again.

Other than that, great game. I don't understand how can people cry for Diablo 3 when TQ is still around.

The non-random maps of Titan Quest were definitely a disappointment, and I agree it made replaying the game nowhere near as enticing as the Diablo's. At the very least I wish they'd made the actual dungeon areas random, even if the topside maps had been static.

Oh and whoever mentioned the boss fights...they do tend to be a little harder than Diablo2's when you first (blind) try them. Only Duriel ever gave me trouble in Diablo2, until they patched him into a wimphood.

Last summer my girlfriend and I put many hours into our two characters playing together and it was quite fun. We made it to the last area, but lost interest before we actually killed the final boss. The game was very addicting before that point, but for whatever reason it wasn't so engrossing that we felt the need to finish it. We basically put it down one day and never felt the urge to pick it up again.

I really enjoyed the game for the setting though the difficulty really started to bother me in the later acts. I found it more enjoyable due to the setting and music than Diablo 2, though I admit to spending more time with that game then I should have, even though it is more linear. I can see linearity in Titan Quest making sense due to the locations it trys to portray and some of themythology behind them. You can't make it random and yet try and stay close to the actual mythology. I have to say though I never really got bored with the locations since they vary enough as you progress and you don't get stuck in the same grassy field for too long.

When I play I usually end up playing as a Dream/Hunting master character who utilizes spears as the psionic touch Dream ability. Always works out well for me though I did try the Rogue/Warrior combination at one point.
