So my Friend was showing me this game and it sounds interesting. Apparently they have a beta for it right now. I'm slightly interested. Has anybody else heard anything about it? I guess it may be free-to-play. I also heard they're trying to get it on XBLA? Not sure though.

Anyways, http://www.hawkengame.com/blog/media

I heard about it around 8 months ago and it looked very appealing to me. It still does. But now that it is going F2P, I sadly am going to have to pass on this one. :(

Cooooooool! Mech games just don't get as much love as they should.

You're passing on it because it's going free-to-play?

I like a game because I can unlock things, if fulfills my completionist tendencies. But when you have to buy the unlocks, then how would that be fun for me?

*Pays 25 dollars*

THERE I UNLOCKED EVERYTHING

*2 days later*

Let's see what else is out there.

I agree with half of that post... Why is F2P a bad thing?

I've got a bunch of friends that are trying to get into the beta. I don't mind that it's F2P really. Its multiplayer for free. I don't care about the extra stuff.

If any of them get in, please post their impressions. That launch trailer looks jittery during the firefight.

I am also trying to get in the beta. Most probably, I'll fail to be accepted though. I never get into betas. <_<

Hawken seemed quite appealing. But then MWO happened and pretty much steamrolled over anything Mechs related. (And it is Free to play as well)

Having a bizarre PC setup will ease the odds.

I heard about this a couple months back, got really excited when I first heard use to play a lot of Armored Core on the older playstations, and watch a lot of mecha anime (gundam, robotech).
I like to keep my eye out for new mecha games since there isn't a lot around, I use to play Exteel which was a f2p mecha game which I dumped a lot of credits into before it folded I'm a bit skeptical that Hawken won't really have the same pitfalls as Exteel, like tons of lag switchers.
Last I heard about Hawken the mecha combat is suppose to have a lot of flying booster type movement sounds like it'd be a major buzzkill trying to hit something that lag warps all over the place.

Really not sure why people are complaining about the F2P. What the small Indie team is doing is smart marketing. They know they have little chance to compete with other multiplayer’s. The F2P will give them a huge shot at it. Look at the videogame Brink, good game I enjoyed it. Though the game eventually crashed and burned, it did not live long people found it was not worth paying for little content. Give the game a chance. People are judging it and smashing it already just because it’s F2P. Team member for Hawking said the game will have no campaign simply because it costs allot of money. Big companies spend millions for only hours or entertainment. It's a small company creating something amazing. Can't believe it's F2P!

If you would like to take place in the Beta: Here is a link. http://playhawken.com?ref=FWj4ACNE

Here is a thread that explains some stuff in a more detailed way from a Indie Team Member about F2P:

Sufficed say I'm excited. It's F2P on the Pc and sold to me.

Its multiplayer for free.

I watched all the videos and was thinking to myself, "WOW! This looks amazing." Then I started to wonder why there was no voice over work for the Mech, then I started seeing the tell-tale signs that it was multiplayer. Then I though, "Damn, and that looked like it had potential. Now I won't even bother."

svcks.
