Positive views on Skyrim

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 4:27 pm

Greeting fellow forumites.

I work nightshifts and have ample time to peruse the internet and getting paid. I've been reading alot of Skyrim forums in the last couple of days and missing the game itself almost entirely. Having to sleep during the day and spend time with the missus and the two little monsters (8 months / 5 years) in the evenings I haven't played all that much. I have read alot of ”I’ll burn you all Bethesda”, ”Todd Howard is the evillest man alive” and ”The interface svcksorz” posts. Now I shall try to rectify thie universal balance of good vs evil by making a positive post….

So far I’ve played somewhere around 3-4 hours if I recall correctly and in that short amount of time I have:

1: Physically opened my mouth like a bass in real life, gawking at what can only be described as awesomeness in 1680x1050. It’s made better by some, but not many, In my opinion.

2: Ducked in my chair and held my breath, while sneaking around a corner in a dungeon, only to realise that real life doesn’t affect my PC…

3: Found ”realistic” enemies that carry the actual loot the have equipped, meaning no rats with an ebony chainmail in the guts.

4: Marvelled at the inspiring soundtrack, that feels like it was made JUST for me (which in turn, it kindda is)

5: Slain enemies that was both greatly rendered/styled and highly believable, to my great satisfaction

6: Found enough loot to keep me wondering just what might be around the next corner, but not flooding my inventory.

7: Seen countless examples of meticulous (sp?) design by Bethesda. People holed up in a bandit lair actually made the place home. It looks inhabited and not just a bedroll, 2 apples and 4 gold coins on an otherwise cold hard generic dungeon floor.

8: Exclaimed more than one ”Holy sweet Jebus in the friggin heavens above” like comment, when something totally not expected happened to me.

9: Stood still for a long time just taking in the sights. The weathersystem is really setting the mood. Try letting time simply pass, and notice what wonder the system does with the world under different meterological phenomenons.. Awesome in my book.

10: had the feel like this is going to eat away all my spare time for a long, long, long, long, long, long time…..

And I haven’t even battled a dragon yet….
This is by no means a comprehensive list of what I like about the game, or because I have no gripes with the game. There are stuff I would have made different, had I made them myself, but nothing that detract from my overall experience…

All in all a solid 9.5/10 from ole Locain here in Denmark.

I like the way certain NPCs will keep talking to you if you keep talking to them... much more realistic than the Heard any rumors line.

Rode cross country on a horse today and have to say the horse moved and performed stunningly.

The water is beautiful and riding the rapids is AMAZING.

By Odins beard. You make a new post, go put on some coffee, and 15 minutes later your new post is buried on page three.. These forums move fast ;)
I guess all I'm saying is BUMP!

For the sake of sharing positive things..

I love the list.

I have to say I won't even make a list. There is SOOOO much I love about this game so far that I couldn't make a fair list.

Thank you for the post though! Really happy to see someone thinking about the positives (like me).

I guess all I'm trying to convey here, is that I'm very happy with the game.

Being an old(er) man and having gamed extensively during the years, I'm not as testy about small flaws as most people seem to be. Perfection is not achievable anyway. I distinctly remember games from the early 90's where bugs/typos/weird stuff/ broken quests etc. were the norm ;)
