Only through console commands or modding.

I'd prefer killing neither. I joined the Stormcloaks and was nauseated at the end of that quest. It really stank.

Why do you want to kill Ulfric? Tullis is a weak scumbag.

Tullis doesn't really strike me as a scumbag. He doesn't really seem to find any glory in this war and is doing it mostly out of an obligation and sense of duty. I really get the impression that he'd much rather be somewhere else.

Ulfric on the other hand seems to be all about expanding his own mythos, while doing as little as possible. He's not going off into battle, blasting people apart with the Thu'um, showing the power of the Nords of Skyrim. He just sits on his thrown in Windhelm, giving flowery speeches, and neglecting the hold he's in charge of. He's so focused on the war he's not fighting, that he lets a serial killer roam free in his own city!

I want both their gear without sinking a huge amount of perks into pickpocket. So not possible, eh? Can you at least pickpocket both their gear?

You can kill Thane Bryling of Solitude for a set of clothes called Thane's Clothes, which are what Ulfric actually wears. (under a different name)

Tullius' armor is unique.

Edit:

Oh snap, Bryling's essential.

Edit 2:

Some people are reporting Bryling becoming killable after doing the Solitude Thieves Guild quest. Also try talking to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Pactur to trigger a quest related to her, also might make her killable.

Nope..

Although, my last playthrough I pissed off Tullius by first signing up to the empire, then going through the peace council and playing favorites with Ulfric. Then resumed the war later. What was funny is this one of the rare times in the game that it altered dialogue based on my choices. Once I resumed the war, he was like "You better help me get these back after all that crap you pulled." [paraphrased]

But no, you can't kill both. Just disappoint one and kill the other.

I don't see why they would both be essential after the civil war quest was over. Lame. Anyone know if you can pickpocket their gear with the master level pickpocket perk?

Considering that they're your first most high profile and capable allies against the Thalmor, it's not that lame.

I don't think you can, since Essential people can't be pickpocketed. I have no idea why they did that, as it doesn't make any sense.

Seriously? Brutal. I wanted to make a character who wore nothing but unique gear stolen from dead rulers. Wedding Wreath, General Tullius' Armor, Gidled Wristguards and Ulfrics boots.

While I appreciate the theme, that sounds like one of the ugliest combinations you could make in the game :)

I'm still scratching my head about this. You pick a side, and your reward for supporting that side is the clothing of the enemy side. Seems odd.

I agree. I am glad that I joined the Stormcloaks, but it would have been nice to have been able to have ended the quest line without killing Rikke and Tullius.

Wearing a wreath seems to go rather well with the imperial theme methinks. Also gilded wristguards have the same color scheme as general Tullius' armor. Still iffy on the boots though. Might also trade the wreath for a gold and Ruby circlet.

I thought the Gilded Wristguards just looked light Nightingale Gloves? If they're gold and not black like I thought, that's different. And I agree with the wreath.

When I found out the quest rewards were backwards, AGAIN... (I joined the Legion on a Legionnaire character hoping to be rewarded with what Tulius is wearing), I tried killing Tulius but he remained essential.

Grr.

For females it displays as nightingale in the menu but it is gold rings over leather in actuality. Still stuck on the boots though.

@Zydrate: Grr indeed.

Good Generals aren't General bc they want to be, they are General bc of the ppl that will die if they aren't.
We often get a glorified view of Generals from the movies, where they are "romanticized" (not speaking of romance here, but more that they are painted like a hero by the media).
