Possible to permanantly dismiss Housecarl?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 4:02 pm

So..I don't mind lydia, but I bought the house in Markarth and I am thinking maybe I just shouldn't have taken the thane title, I would rather not have a housecarl in every damn house. Beth should have given you an option to decline. Is there anyway to permantly dismiss him?

Also, if I decide to be thane also on my warrior, lol, he looks just like the damn housecarl they give you...tatoo and everything....that's just too weird :)

If you're on the PC you can use the console to just remove the offending housecarl from existance.
Without the ability to use console magic, then the only thing I can think off to get them out of your house is having the housecarl join the blades.

In my game Lydia got shot in the back with an arrow while fighting a Frost Troll.

Those trolls are deadly marksmen.

...
Oh right. In addition to my previous post: you could just have them follow you to a nice, secluded dwemer ruin and arrange for an accident.

Reminds me of the time my housecarl slipped on the ice and fell on a dagger... 27 times. Sensible shoes, people! Always wear sensible shoes.

Open the console. Left-click on the item/person you want to remove. Input into console "MarkForDelete" without the quotes. Close the console. Exit the space. Re-enter the space. Should be gone.

I took my Riften housecarl for a nice stroll in the lovely woods around the area. A bear attacked us but she somehow managed to survive, to my despair. I then finished the job and dragged her body next to the dead bear, you know, to make it look like she died fighting the bear. Perfect murder, no witnesses, no livestock.

You could do what I enjoy doing: Bring them up to the Throat of the World and fusrodah them off the top. Then search for their corpse. :D

I took my Markath housecarl for a jog along the cliffs on the way to Solitude... by now only God knows where the stream took him. Iona (my wife) and I moved in to Markath and I didn't feel like having a second guy hanging around in the background. Someone had to go.

I also took my Solitude housecarl to "check out some cave" north-west of the city....

During the quest for the mages' guild, you need to clear some dungeon/fort from destruction mages/necromancers (sorry, I don't remember it well :P). At a certain time, you discover multiple cages controlled by switches, with vampires in it. Release vampires, put in housecarls, et voilà, you've got your own housecarl collection.

You can dismiss them right off the top of the throat of the world.

You could donate the extra thanes to Mephala's sword and Boethiah's shrine. That should thin down their numbers.

Or if you are feeling kind, the Blades are looking for new recruits and you can have them set up house in the Blades Temple.

Kill em or take them to Boethiah's shrine!

Another console option is to get them to go somewhere you do want them (like say on your porch) and then use the console to set their move speed to 0. Voila, instant doorman!

Another fun place to dismiss them (using Fus Ro Dah) is the path to the College at Winterhold.

I've found the best way to dismiss a housecarl is by not missing them.

I decided I didn't like Calder's sideburns, so I arranged a visit to the nearest giant camp. My problem was taken care of with one fell swoop of a club. Calder is now space debris.

'permantantly dismiss', I think the solution you're looking for is an axe to the head.
