Possible to remove fog or just lower it some way?

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 6:07 am

Yeah well even tho my GPU seems to be running cooler in this game than it normally is idle and my CPU not doing a thing, stuff like fog really makes my game lag.

Like enterering a crypt my perfectly fine FPS drops like 40+ and everywhere there's alot of fog it gets alot more laggy than it should be.

So is there anyway to lower the fog or whatever it's called in the INI? I've checked it, but i'm not really that good with this stuff, so i really hope someone can help.

Thanks.

It doesn't work. I pasted it practically everywhere, in skyrimprefs.ini, skyrim.ini, under every existing section. No matter where I put it, when I load the game, the fog/mist is still there, killing my otherwise surprisingly good performance. Any ideas? Please?

Same here. Fog will not go away with that setting. Also, it would be nice to have something similar to disable particle effects of fires etc. FPS are generally good on my laptop if neither fog or fires are in my view.

The real performance killers for me are fog and bloom/hdr. Disabling fire would be a little impractical not to mention that I love me some flame magic.

Ok, I have found out what the problem was for me and just wanted to share.

I had set my "antialiasing" in options to "8 samples" and as soon as I lowered it to "4 samples" my problem was gone.

A side note:

What helped me further was lowering the "object fade" in options. I had mine set to 15 but when I lowered it to 7 it gave me an significant boost to fps in certain areas in dungeons.

Bump.
Need fog gone. Fog was broken before I got this unofficial patch to fix particle effects on certain graphic cards, so then i could actually see fire spells and dragon breath (also fixed some crashes), however it also enabled fog. Now I don't want to play because I'm literally going around at 10-20 fps depending on where I'm at. Actually, there was this one part where my PC would freeze for about 2-3 seconds on a frame.

I believe I've seen a mod to remove fog on skyrim nexus. Not sure if it works though, as I haven't tried it.

EDIT: if anyone tries this out, please post back here with results to help others decide whether to use it or not. Thanks.

The nexus mod works great, improved my overall performance a lot. Strangely enough, I noticed improvements in outside areas too. Definitely recommended for people with weaker rigs. Link: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=736
