Possible to run game in resolution thats not letterbox? : Fallout: New Vegas

I'm trying to run the game at a video setting other than 1920x1080. However all of the other video settings are all letterbox and have a black border around the screen. Is there any way around this? It make it feeling like its in windowed mode.

On PC, in OPTIONS, second box down: "aspect ratio"

Choose 4:3

(can't help you with game console setting)

16:9 should have 1360x768,1366x768 and 1920x1080 as non letter-boxed options.

16:10 should have 1440x900 and 1920x1200.
