How do you impress the NCR? : Fallout: New Vegas

NCR is really easy to be impress. I am idolized in Boulder City in my first play through.

Did you accept the mission "Back in your own backyard" for if you did this is your problem. I encountered a glitch where accepting this mission plummets your NCR standing. Plus the mission is fulfilled insofar as Boone is concerned during the battle of Nelson. I had to restart from the point just before i accepted this mission. After the Nelson battle (without accepting Back) I was idolized.

Is it because I'm wearing my Ranger outfit? Even if I take it off though and look in my pip boy i'll hover over a NCR location and still be neutral ?

Er....unless they drastically changed something in the last patch, I call bogus. Or you're using mods or console commands.
They're not super-duper-hard to impress, it just takes a fair bit more than, say, getting Goodsprings to Idolize you.

Just keep doing missions for the NCR.

This includes Side Quests AND Undocumented Quests. Lots of rep can be gained from Undocumented Quests.
