Let's port this game to the CryEngine 2!

Sounds awesome, can make the graphics worse and everyone will be running at much lower FPS, sounds like a fantastic idea. The Cryengine 2 is not anywhere near as good as Cryengine 3.

The idea is to implement at the very least DX10. It'll end up looking a lot better.

I'm pretty sure that DX10 was never meant to be supported, just DX9 and DX11 (not sure why). Should be mentioned that you could force DX10 settings in DX9 mode on the original Crysis and the result was just that, it looked the same as the DX10 settings, there are many screenshots around the web comparing them.

Crysis 1 looked amazing not because of CryEngine 2 (well partly because) but mostly because of the tropical world and the way it was presented, but it was horribly rescource heavy.

CryEngine 3 is in every way better (have you seen the example videos of a tropical climate?) it is just presented in an urban jungle a city landscape, its like comparing apples to oranges. This DX9 mode looks fantastic and runs amazingly well in CryEngine 3, with DX11 unlocked the game is going to blow minds, but you have to take into consideration were not on a beautiful tropical jungle island.

That's not the way it works. Read some of my earlier posts. If DX11 is supported, then DX10 is essentially supported (unless you intentionally lock out DX10 hardware as was done in Dirt 2) as well since about 90% of DX11's features were introduced in DX10 and are backwards compatible with DX10.

Just so everyone understands - which a lot of you don't. Since at this point in time it's next to impossible to mod Crysis 2 to take advantage of CryEngine 3 effects (if it really does support DX10 and DX11 which I am STILL suspicious that it doesn't), the idea is to import ONLY THE MAPS into the CryEngine 2 editor so DX10 effects can be added along with other graphics mods like Lifesis or CCC which are currently impossible to implement in Crysis 2.

The game will end up looking just as good as the original Crysis once some texture work is done, and will run just like the original Crysis because the CryEngine 2 will be doing all the work - It's just reading the maps. It might even run smoother than the original Crysis due to the small cramped maps. We will be using CryEngine 2's DX10 lighting, shadows, volumetric effects, particle effects, high res textures, etc. It will look A LOT better than what Crysis 2 looks like now with DX9.

Read this which I have posted twice already and here again for a third time.

Cryengine 2 (Crysis) DX10 on max settings looked the same as forced DX9. So how you figure that Cryengine 3 (Crysis 2) engine in DX9 is going to look worse than a DX10 Cry Engine2? I've never heard so much rubbish being thrown around. The capabilities of CryEngine 3 have been showcased and it is far beyond what you can achieve in CryEngine 2.

You people need to read my posts. I'm saying nothing of the sort. Crysis 2 looks awful compared to Crysis 1. At this point in time it is impossible to mod Crysis 2 to take advantage of more of the CryEngine 3. The only option that is seemingly feasible is to get it running in the CryEngine 2 which will enable Crysis 2 to utilize the DX10 features of the CryEngine 2 and LOOK FAR BETTER THAN CRYSIS 2's DX9 USAGE IN THE CRYENGINE 3.

You miss the point, the point is that even Crysis 1 was not improved by having DX10 on, and that the main reason Crysis 1 looked good was because of the environment of a tropical island, when infact Crysis 2 does look better, if you applied Cry Engine 2 to the city landscape of Crysis 2 then you would simply make it look worse.

I'm not missing the point. The buildings in Crysis 1 look better than The buildings in Crysis 2.

We were given this.

And I'm suggesting we turn it into something like this.
