3D Details

Post » Thu Jun 17, 2010 10:37 pm

Crysis recently posted a link on their twitter which showed some of the requirements to play the game on PC, the article was translated from German into English be Google, which did an alright job, but in this circumstance, it made some things in it confusing. Could anyone help translate this a little better so we can understand the 3D requirements?
Thanks.

Here's the paragraph I'm interested in:
Instead in recent 3D solutions all images twice to calculate (halved frame rate!) And on a dedicated 120-Hz LCD enables easy issue, Crytek uses simply the back buffer and depth information of the card: The calculated frame is cloned and practical by Fractum- Shift procedure doubled. On the one hand, the performance suffers and almost no 3D stereo is possible on any LCD - ergo on PC as consoles, Crytek calls this "Screen Space Re-Projection Stereo".

And here's a direct link to the whole article:

What was the point in posting then?

To the topic creator, I don't know much about 3D, so I won't be able to answer the question. I clicked on your link and it seems to send me straight to the translator, not the page. If you could simply post the link again, it could be helpful.

The forums have a rare habit in destroying the links, so it shouldn't hopefully occur if you posted again. Cheers'. :)

This link should work, and there's an option to look at the original in German and the translation.

It seems they were using rig with a i7 920 + 6Gb of RAM and a GTX 260 running in DirectX 9 and he was messing around with editor on that showcase or whatever.

Now when you play a 3D ready Pc game and you enable it the framesrates drop.

For example lets say you where playing Left 4 Dead and you had a max of 120 FPS, once you enable the 3D stereoscopic thingy your frames will drop automaticly to 60 FPS becuase now your graphics card is rendering 2 images at once.

I guess what they were saying in that article and i've seen a video or read somewhere that they found a way to create the 3D effect without any FPS loss.

I think it was on Episode 2 from Crysis TV.

From what i can gather they can get 3d effects on standard 60hz screens with little framerate drops at all.

Now, if that's the case and is true, all is forgiven crytek! Along with some of the small little bits of info on the pc graphics released lately i'm beginning to get interested in the game again :D

I just want to see crytek officially release some pc only footage to prove they are still awesome :)
