Nano cats collected disappearing?!

Post » Tue Oct 05, 2010 4:15 pm

When I saved my game, I had almost 6000 nano cats collected. When I loaded it again, I was back to zero.

This isn't the first time this has happened - so far I have lost at least 10.000 nano cats I was trying to save for an expensive suit upgrade.

WTF IS GOING ON HERE?!!!

Edit: I just found out that this is a known bug and there is no workaround for it.

WHAT DID YOU GUYS AT CRYTEK SMOKE WHEN YOU DID YOUR QUALITY ASSURANCE, HUH?

Yes, we know and the devs know.

Its a known problem that crytek does nothing about. You can fix it through either A. A cheat trainer type of program or B. Hacking into your own RAM using a program called Cheat Engine, searching for values related to your nano catalysts, and changing that number to what it should be.

Fun game, amirite?

I had almost 12.000 cats saved when I closed the game Tuesday, when continuing the game Wednesday they were all gone.

Who cares if Cry-Tom addressed this? Maybe instead of learning to research, you should learn the concept of the Rightfully Angry Customer.

I just love the people who come here to pounce on those who have valid arguments against Crytek, like they are expecting some sort of in-game bonus, or perhaps a PR job. It is absolutely fabulous to imagine that Crytek is hard at work trying to fix the stupid Nano Catalyst bug, but hey, I'm cynical. Just because a couple Crytek Admins come here and say they're working on it doesn't really do it for me, I want some bleeding results. They don't know how long it will take to fix? Maybe this should have been something they fixed oh, I don't know, months ago. Or maybe let anyone who wanted to buy the game know that there was a slight chance they might not be able to collect the Nano Catalyst... oh wait, that is just bad business. What is good business? "Let the customer find out for themselves that they got the shaft until we finally figure out how to fix our product. And don't forget to feign apologies."

From my point of view, there isn't anything for Crytek to defend. Saying sorry only goes so far. I'm not a total psycho, it's not like I plan on writing them off for all eternity, when the game is fixed I will play it happily. But in *ALL* honesty, I haven't purchased a video game that has essentially forced me to wait for a fix like this EVER. I've had to play badly designed games with bugs, sure, we all have. But never, EVER (!!) have I thought to myself, "Damn, this is SO frustrating I have zero desire to even play this game!". I've always been able to cope with making up for lost time, a bug here and there, typical gamer stuff. This is just hilarious though, and I'm sure a decent percent of everyone who reads this and have had no game-breaking bugs think "Cool story" or think I am another windbag, since this is a message board about a video game, after all.

In short... I guess Crytek just isn't as good as I thought. Other AAA developers with constricting schedules never release games with such pathetic, fun-sapping bugs.

Crytek is a poor company. The bugs they allow are not game breaking but absurdly annoying. I had around 7000 cat and was saving for an upgrade. reload my game to start a new level which was 'a train to catch'. This is probably the first level with wave upon wave of aliens you need to destroy. I checked my cat almost upon completion of the level and found it at zero, i killed more to collect cat, still zero. In effect the game has boycotted my progression and stolen over 20,000 cat from me (not exaggerating). Lets talk about multi-player, first of all too many people hack for it to be considered an operational game, if call of duty and a myriad of steam games get the protection right why cant you? Part of the fun about crysis up until now was playing as yourself, you play a visored anonymous cyborg only with a code name, genius. Yet they decided to take that away from you when it comes to your multi-player character which you actually spend time leveling up. The visor is forced clear and its clone wars with no aesthetic unlockables what so ever, everyone plays with the same blue or beige armored white guy with blue eyes, good job guys. I know this is an ignorant and spiteful thing to say but honestly i look forward to hearing about your companies financial troubles and this is the very last game i purchase from you.

Well, I admit I didn't bother to research - I found out that this is a known bug after posting, when I found this bug being described in the customer support area.

So yes, I was somewhat annoyed, but what I want to say in defense of Crysis 2 is that I found it to be quite a solid game - I had sound crop out a few times after hours of playing, and one single crash right after a control point. I also find it quite well balanced and fun to play - you get the nice gadgets when you need them, and not (like in FONV) near the end of the campaign when there's pretty little left to use it on it. Crysis 2 is not an exceptional game, and it borrows heavily from other games that have preceded it (it's screaming Half-Life (2) at me all the time) but it is well executed.

You also cannot catch each and every bug in a complex software like this game, even less if it supports several platforms. Some bugs only show up when there's a huge number of "samples". I just hope I will not direly need some of the better suit upgrades later on.

The only thing I really hate about it is the control point scheme. On a PC, I want to be able to save and load games at will. There are enough control points though to sufficiently ease this pain, and having to do several iterations with a certain area of the game hasn't become boring for me so far.

So I do not wish Crytek to suffer and go down. Imo they are still a good company.

Btw, as written above, not only does the game remove collected cats when continuing the campaign, but often it doesn't record cats you collect while playing. I clearly remember gathering the cats from a corpse of one of those heavy mollusks with the rocket launcher (or whatever) which should have given me 500 cats, but I didn't get any. And yes, the cats were there, hovering next to the enemy's corpse in that glimmering haze it produces.
