Did you change your playstyle [from Oblivion]

Nope, still play as an archer assassin

With athletics and acrobatics gone, I had to.

Although I still stick to the no magic rule.

Does that mean no dragon shouts then?

Poison coated stealth-stabbyness since Morrowind for all my main characters everything else is just playing around with something different for a change of pace now and then. :ninja:

With no attributes, I'm playing what I've always wanted to play: the ultimate Redguard mage.
Love these perks. No more tedious grinding of skills I hate or that are wrong for my RP.

Pure mage is always my favorite. Summoning, fireballs, detect life while sneaking.

All I really miss, really, is levitation. I actually love the new magic system and the changes they made...but they took away levitation in Oblivion and I've missed it ever since.

I was going to play my paladin class type that I always made in the past elder scrolls games. But the casting system isn`t really very usable for play like that unless you stick with a 1 hander and have a spell in your other hand. Makes no sense that fighting with a 2 hander I have to equip my 1 hander to have a hand free to cast a heal. Same while using a shield. So i just use potions now instead. That casting system is almost as bad as two worlds 2 where had to equip a staff just to cast a spell. I like the way you could cast magic in oblivion.I thought the system was cool at first but the more I found myself needing to heal, the time it tookto switch weapons and charge the spell up for using wasn`t cutting it. For restoration anyway. I know I can run away and heal and I do that if I run out of potions. But to play a paladin/cleric type char don`t work too good for me. Just let me raise my sword to the sky, scream some obscene word, and let the spell cast.

I find myself actually wearing cloth robes instead of armor as a mage. I also do alchemy this time around, which is much more enjoyable to practice than it ever was in Oblivion.

I'm actually using more magic than I did in Oblivion and I used it a lot before; I'm really trying to explore its limits and try everything. With the robes and circlets, it's giving me a boost in magicka that helps me do that early. There's a lot I haven't tried yet until I get more gold and explore the dungeons more to find things to disenchant. There's so much to find and learn. :)

Just wait until you get to use the Wall of Fire/Frost/Shock spells. Oh how they make hallways deadly, and so fun to experiment with.

good question. Yea I have changed. I've been so comfortable with Oblivion & Cyrodiil over these past few years; after awhile my characters pretty much always know what they'll have to do to survive. There's a "comfort zone" whenever I play Oblivion (and I picked up an OB game last nite). Even though I'm a dead is dead player, I know how to work Oblivion's system so well at this point that death is not really at my character's door very often.

Skyrim changed all this. I and my current character Thor a'Zyyne, who is a male Nord barbarian who doesnt' use spells at all, literally have no idea what's around that turn or what's behind that grove of trees. Skyrim feels a heck of a lot more dangerous, even at lower levels.

Matter of fact, my first character (Blade 'n' Bone, another Nord barbarian) already died after just 2 days of gameplay. Killed by a couple bandits, which is virtually unheard of in any of my Oblivion games. Just goes to show you really gotta pay attention to EVERYTHING.

Even going in cities is different in Skyrim. NPCs don't just say random misnomers all the time, a potential quest or roleplay moment or even a fight could ensue at any time. No more brushing by NPCs with half-an-ear in iggy mode.
