Why Skyrim is so great

140 hours. First play through. Not bored yet.

I can't say the same of any other single player RPG/Action/Whatever game I've played this year.Epic.

On your poll, combat. Vast improvement for us archers over Oblivion.

Right, so I'm a Mr. Negative because, despite enjoying the game, I saw notable flaws in it and don't think it's GotY.

There's a thread for exactly that topic, almost word for word, on page one of this section.

Sheesh.

Most things really. I only have a few problems with the game, and they for the most part aren't a big deal.

I'd add "Freedom" to that list.

For instance (minor spoilers):
Spoiler
I've been playing the game since shortly after its release. I have somewhere around 80 hours. I had done the first bit of the MQ which takes place in Whiterun but being the exploratory-type I said, "Hold on MQ. We'll get back to you later" and started checking out the town. Found the Companions. Thought I'd see what they were all about. Got sent off to the South East. Randomly discovered Riften. Found the Thieves Guild and said, "Yep. This is what we're doing. Not going to stop until I've completed everything for these guys." Now, last night. after being nearly through with all possible Dark Brotherhood jobs and finishing many of the side-quests (NOT misc) I had piled-up by chance, I decided to explore a bit more of the MQ. Got to a part where I needed to go to the Thieves Guild to acquire some information. Information came freely to me because I was already the Guild Master. 'Course they're going to let me know where Esbern is staying; I'm their boss.

That is why I love this game.

Right, so I'm a Mr. Negative because, despite enjoying the game, I saw notable flaws in it and don't think it's GotY.

I don't really care if it won through the voice of the people, that doesn't automatically mean it excels in all fields. Period.

Oh come on, a bit of jest never hurts.

You can notice flaws and I do notice flaws, but you are oddly overreacting about it. After all, this started when you "fixed" my post:
Being game of the year means it excels in all the fields.

with

"Being game of the year means certain people seem to think it excels in all the fields."

For me, the "seem to think" is the one that bothers me, as you imply that it is a surprise, that it is unorthodox. Also, "certain" is a term usually used to describe a small handful of individuals. Had you written something like:

"Being game of the year means it excels in all the fields, according to those who voted it such."

there would be no problem.
