A simple poll. Feel free to post and add anything you want.

Make it be multiple choice. I think a few of those things make it incredibly great, not one specifically.

Side-quest content is what the game does best imo. Side quests never did a particularly good job of drawing me in in Oblivion. In Skyrim I can find myself spending 20-40 hour blocks of game time solely on side content (really it's rather silly to be calling it "side" content anymore, at this point).

Being game of the year means it excels in all the fields.

Being game of the year means certain people seem to think it excels in all the fields.

Overall game content. Has atleast 5 times more content than what games today have + replayablity.

Freedom, more than anything else. The depth and richness of the stories and lore are also what I believe make TES games stand out.

Uh...the game world. I voted music of the options though.

Haven't finished main storyline, combat is bad, graphics are mediocre, music is great as usual due to Soule, crafting ruins the combat even further, looting is pointless due to crafting.

None of the above.
.
For me, it's what we now seem to call "freeplay" - i.e. where the player decides her/his own destiny.
.
When the Construction Kit comes out in January, then I will regard as the greatest feature of the game the opportunity for the player to freely publish her/his own scenarios or modifications for the game.

Agreed, my friends are not people who do multiple playthroughs but they're actually doing it.

Pretty much all of thee above, but I voted for the music because it's that damn good.

As good as Oblivions was, by this time playing it I had already switched to a custom soundtrack. (re constructed ancient Greek and Roman music, and sometimes "Subbatum" which is Black Sabbath covers played and arranged as traditional medieval music, bad ass. Think The Omen meets War Pigs  )

Skyrim's has the perfect epic ambiance without ever being intrusive about. Some of the instrumental pub music is as good as anything in that sort of genre I've heard.

Agree, the graphics aren't anything special, I think a lot of posters are just defaulting to it because the game looks good - even though it's in spite of the graphics rather than due to them.

I think you made it worse. According to you those who consider Skyrim GOTY are a minority. As far as the polls are concerned, 9 out of 10 are (very) pleased with this game.

Weird, I thought being game of the year means it was the best game to be released in that 12 month period.

According to you, people who don't consider Skyrim GOTY don't exist. I'd say my version is still a fix.

I'm pretty pleased with the game. That doesn't mean I think it's deserving of all the GOTYs (I don't). And also what the majority thinks isn't all that important. Just because we're dealing with art doesn't mean we still can't employ reason, to an extent. Jumping from "a majority of people seem to like it" to "it excels in all qualities" isn't logically sound.

The graphics in this game (specially viewing it on a 1080P 42' hdtv screen) is quite breath taking at times. I love what they did to the moons, they almost look like they did in Morrowind.

Graphics is a given so I voted for Storyline. It's very interesting especially when you read the books. All these stories are just amazing. I just wanna know more as to what happened to the Dwarven Race as to why they're gone.
