I get what he's saying. He's not against mods, he just wishes that Skyrim will be bearable in it's vanilla form a few years up the road, whereas Oblivion is just unplayable without mods.

Hmm. Guess it all depends on point of view.

My set of "needs this to function" mods is quite small, honestly. DaRN UI, a couple minor interface bits (like removing the map markers of closed Gates), and a level scaling fix (I typically use Francesco's). Not very large, size-wise. And with easy to use custom installers.

The vast majority of mods I install are "optional" things, like body replacers, quests, and armor.

I had about a 100 mods... then I found OOO and never looked back. As far as I'm concerned, "Vanilla" Oblivion WAS Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. The game that was released was simply incomplete. (It played nicely on the console, but the PC version needed a lot of work to feel right)

well considering that ive got nearly 550 hours of play from Fallout New Vegas, only 5 hours of that has been with mods. now yes NV was developed by obsidian but they were supervised by BSG, and Vannila FO3 was more complete than oblivion. I just hope that mods that come out are balanced, and most importantly work well enought to not cause massive amounts of crashes and conflicts. i dont expect every mod to work well with one and other, but i would really love to see big complete mods like OOO and FOOK etc work seamlessly with each other and the game without the need to to act know about modding in the first place.

I just want to open up the skyrim mod manager and install the mods i want without having to down, install and then learn a python just to install wyrebash and then Skyrim script extender followed by some new program that is apprently needed to run x mod.

Agreed. While I played Morrowind vanilla and just loved it, one of my biggest issues with Oblivion was just how broken the levelling system was out of the box. OOO fixed that but that, coupled with all the other mods I ended up getting....it really added up.

I just really hope the game is good vanilla and I can mod months from now to add to the experience, not fix it.

wow, guess I wasn't the only one who relied so heavily on OOO :) It's been so long.

It's a personal preference I guess - I for one, like my game vanilla. I only install patches and fixes and such.
Amen bro, I only mod if something is broken.
