Some People NEED To Realize This!

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 10:42 am

Every hit you make with a two-hander is not a hit with a one-hander. Hits you take in heavy armor are hits you didn't take in light armor, and so on. There ARE cases where leveling one skill actually prevents you from leveling another skill.

Of course, this doesn't apply to things like lockpicking, blacksmithing or alchemy. Still, if you level some skills inadvertently... you are pushing yourself towards the level cap... and losing out on the chance to benefit from leveling other skills... so...

it is not COMPLETELY true that the system is wide open.

HOWEVER, the great one said this

"There are so many perks and the power really comes from the perks, we wanted to get it going faster. "

You can have 100 in archery but without those perks the power doesnt show up. They are going to balance the game based on people with 4 or 5 points in perks.

So this is really moot issue, sure you can level up a skill, but if you cant perk that skill destruction isnt going to be worthwhile, that two handed axe isnt going to cut it.

If a 2 handed daedric axe does 25 points with no perks and you have to hit a Vampire Night Stalker 17 times without perks to kill it is it really viable?
Yes.

But you aren't a master at the skill.

I.e. I may be really damn awesome with a bow. But the fact of the matter is, no one can equal me with destruction magic. As opposed to becoming master of all trades because you mastered all the skills. New system is WAY better. The skills are still going to be worthwhile, you just aren't going to be a jack of all trades and master of all.

Nor do you have to invest in the points at all either, since they're not forced during level up.

If you don't use some points do they carry over to the next level up?

To the Topic starter: I beleive people were talking about roleplaying a character a bit like the locked chest thread I've seen on here. Secondly, from what it looks like Bethesda have absolutley nailed this one barring a few minor graphical glitches will are present in EVERY game. Peopl are running out of things to complain about so they seem to pick the most minescule of details. I think people should be made to sit down with an old console like the Spectrum ZX or the Atari and maybe then will they appreciate what they truly have.

What's the point of wasting perk points in Light Armor if you're just going to use Heavy Armor? You're just gimping your character.

Just seen a few comments on posts of people saying they hate perks because it restricts what they can do.

Well..... they're right.....

That doesn't mean that they can't even USE a shield, just because there's no perks in it.

A person who decides to master one handed against someone is just leveling it to 100

Spoils for 1 handed perks so look away !

The person who mastered it using swords does base damage plus what ever 100 skill points gives them

AND

Does 100% more damage then base damage (5)
Has 20% more chance of doing critical hits (3)
Does 25% more damage in standing power attacks (1)
and has a 1 in 4 chance of paralyzing the enemy (1)

The person who just leveled the skill with no perks

Does the base damage of the weapon and what ever the 100 point skill gives them and thats it.

Now thats 10 perks, now imagine if they balanced for 5 or 6 perks and not zero since who would balance a game for zero perks in a combat skill?

You just wont have the ability to kill things that the other person will kill with ease

Perks matter

Being limited to 19% of the perks (level 50) or 27% (level 70) is far less then any game of this type

Its either 23% less then fall out 3 or 15% less then fallout 3

So, because they have HEAPS of perks, you're complaining. Perks matter, and its cool. You cant just have a bunch of perfect characters who are exactly the same running round. You need to make choices as to what you're going to specialize in - kinda like real life. Quit moaning.

Your logic is flawed. You may not be able to oneshot those foes, but you will still be able to kill them. However, it will take a few more swings and potentiially more strategy, such as *gasp* using a shield or dodging attacks.

Perks are not requirements. They add to the flavor of your character. Stop worrying about your character being gimped without "OMG AWESOME PERK $X"
