Some People NEED To Realize This!

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 1:10 pm

Just because you don't put perks in a skill, doesn't mean you can't use it.

Example: I may occasionally use a shield...even though I do not intend to put perks into the Block tree.

Example 2: You can fully perk in light armor...then put on heavy armor if that is what you wish.

I can give examples all day that may seem dumb or pointless, but the point is PERKS DO NOT EQUAL RESTRICTIONS.

Thank you for your time. :turtle:

Isn't this common knowledge?

Nor do you have to invest in the points at all either, since they're not forced during level up.

I don't believe I've seen a post where a person believed that perks=restrictions.

OP is simply commenting that you aren't restricted to anything. You may spend your whole playthrough leveling up one handed weapons, then switch to two handed weapons if you want. I guess this isn't common knowledge...

You do need to have relevant skills of a certain level to gain access to the perks governed by that skill however...

If you have spent no time practicing Smithing you cant just perk your way up to the top of that tree by skilling up in Alchemy, for example.

Posts are becoming HIGHLY redundant these days as we near the release date. Seems everyone has run out of original things to post about and are now just spamming threads with useless non-sense.

People have said silly things like "by placing my perks in light armor, I can't turn around and change my mind mid game and wear heavy armor". You can, it's just your perks in light armor now would serve no purpose...unless you switched back to light armor.

It is kind of odd that people are complaining about the new leveling system limiting their playstyle.

Show me the thread with the same post as mine. I'm helping some misguided people that are new to TES with its new found popularity.

Pretty much everybody. But his PSA was targeted at the extremely irritating minority who apparently didn't.

Just seen a few comments on posts of people saying they hate perks because it restricts what they can do.

I think what they mean is that "because we can only get some of the perks, I can't make a maxed out character who can do everything perfectly - I'm restricted from playing 'the way I want'"

Or something like that.

Strange.

See, after 3 months on this site, I noticed that everyone had run out of orignal creative things to post about and were just spamming threads until we got new information again.

When the game comes out, you'll notice the same thing. There will be a period of new stuff, then the threads will start going around in circles. Eventually, DLC will be announced and the whole cycle will repeat.

HOWEVER, the great one said this

"There are so many perks and the power really comes from the perks, we wanted to get it going faster. "

-Todd Howard

You can have 100 in archery but without those perks the power doesnt show up. They are going to balance the game based on people with 4 or 5 points in perks.

So this is really moot issue, sure you can level up a skill, but if you cant perk that skill destruction isnt going to be worthwhile, that two handed axe isnt going to cut it.

If a 2 handed daedric axe does 25 points with no perks and you have to hit a Vampire Night Stalker 17 times without perks to kill it is it really viable?

Pretty much this. Yeah things are viable in the sense that without the perks it still gets better as you skill up, and you CAN kill the monster. That doesn't mean it is practical. On the far end of this spectrum look at smithing, do you really think your 100 skill in smithing is getting you much when you are stuck with iron and leather armor/weapons? If you perk out the one handed weapons for dual wielding and swords you will be about 3 times more effective than a guy without the perks, if it is balanced for that guy which it likely is how well will your skill alone guy will be when wielding one handed weapons.

To be fair I don't think people are going to be strictly sticking to the class they pick as much as they currently think they are. The game is designed in such a way that your actions determine your class, not your choices specifically. You have to actively choose to use and not to use certain skills and that is not as easy as people seem to think. I think this is kind of what the OP had on his mind when making this thread.
