Preping the computer for skyrim

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 8:11 am

I'm still stuck with my 4+ year old 8800gtx that has died 6 times (I keep throwing it in the oven to reflow the solder). I'm intensely curious if I'll need any hardware-side preparation upon release. Hopefully, my [censored] 17inch monitor and an OC'd Core2 (3.6ghz) might keep me from having to resort to money-intensive tweaks. :sadvaultboy:

I just used canned air to clean out all the dust. I just built this computer a few months back and keep everything up to date and clutter free all the time anyways.

Hey, if I won the lotto, you can bet my spec-sheet would be right up there, too. :P

I wasn't going to do a thing, but I ran an experimental anti-malware script (just out of curiosity, not because of an infection) and toasted DirectX. DirectX games now won't run in fullscreen. That's clearly not acceptable and I haven't been able to fix it. Therefore, I'm reinstalling Windows 7 tonight. This is a good thing. It cleans out all the junk, negates the need for a defrag, and lets me clean install newer versions of MS's programming tools.

I do intend to build a new PC late this year or early next year, partially because of Skyrim and partially for doing work, but it can wait until I can easily spare the cash.
